I once had a custom cup holder that was velcroed to the center console. Worked perfectly for every application!
"1991 332is - 1998 Supercharged OBDI S52 - E36 5-Lug with E36 M3 Brakes - B&G Coilovers - 2.93 LSD - Style 5's"
Gone but not forgotten
"1997 M3"
Currently being restored past its former glory
Thats exactly where I used to put things in my '87 M6. I forgot a couple times and lost the drink, but hey, thats the joy of owning classic bimmers.
She came with two hands, right?
Cupholder looks fine to me man, I have been looking for solutions to the cup problem myself.

why do you even need a cupholder? no drinking in the car! the only exception i make is to a bottle of water and that can be easily jammed somewhere.

I personally drive up to 250 miles a day sometimes. Don't have time to stop and sit down for a drink every time I'm thirsty. I have just been getting bottles of water, but I think its stupid to pay so much for a damn bottle of water when its so cheap out of the tap. That said, I'm probably going to hit up that ultimate cupholder guy and see what the deal is.
Funny enough though, my car that has cupholders in it, I don't drink or eat in.
no rest stops in va? don't need to pump gas every once in a while? buy a case of water and re-use the bottles if you don't want to keep paying for it. bottled water isnt that expensive if you buy it by the case at costco or direct from Poland Spring, they even deliver it.

Funny you mention the rest stops, they closed just about all of them as a cost cutting measure. I'll probably just stick with the bottles for a little while, I do enjoy that clean interior look. Speaking of which, I should make a thread about this 325 I just picked up.
Thanks for the reminder about costco, I have a membership and haven't been in 6 months!
I liked mine better....doesn't line up perfectly, but it doesn't stick out like a swore thumb.

Hmmmm, with a little work I could see that fitting. What e36 is that from exactly? Looks pretty good regardless of fit though.

Y.dot, is that Rudy? (crazazn?)
It's an e46 cupholder.
And yea Dave that is Rudy.
Is that cupholder leather? ^

You know you could mold it to whatever size you want, IE a normal+big, or a normal+small like above depending on what you typically drink.
Ah, well... no. Better wording would have been to say it looks like it belongs on a bicycle, but was too lazy to go back and edit.
My e30 came with the identical cupholder, mounted in the same location with wood screws as the OP, and I ended up chucking it after one to many drinks flew out when I forgot they were there and took a corner too fast. (out of direct line of sight and on the passenger side)
Now I either hold my cup, or stick my cup between my seat and the door.
Why not just get a water bottle.(like a "sports" bottle) It fits between the console and seat, you can put whatever you want in it, and if it does go flying it won't spill. For longer trips, I've attatched a water bladder (camelback) to the back of the seat as well.
Problem solved no mods needed.![]()
Give a man a match, and he'll be warm for a minute. Light a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
It's vinyl. "sfgadgetguy" seems to be an upholstery guy. I guess leather could be an option (darn it, I should have asked). He makes these and sells them on ebay...
The ebay listing has been " BMW e30 Cup Holder 325 M3 318 IX 323 M-tech II Mtech I "
... he tends to repost this listing, make 'em and ship 'em out.

My customer did a write up on how to make the e46 console work.
