Sweet wheels. What size are they?

GotBHP?
11-30-2005, 10:13 PM
Uh, the bolt pattern doesnt apply to those wheels, they are center locking ;)

Sweet wheels, but they wont fit any street going BMW I've ever seen.

awwsheeet
12-01-2005, 04:46 PM
the bolt pattern does matter cause in the dtmpower link up top you can see the pics .....you will bolt the center lock hub your hub and then bolt the wheel to the hub using the big nut. the centerlock hub is drilled for 5x120 (bmw) and the nuts also prevent the wheel from spinning on that hub. its a offical bbs wheel made for m3's if anyone is in the long island ny area they are welcome to come try them on for free.

I don't want to rain on your sale thread, but IIRC it's NOT a good idea to run Magnesium wheels on the street since they are softer than aluminum. Thus making them much more suceptable to road hazard damage. I'm pretty certain this is the case with a "race only" style wheel. It's important for the buyer to know this.

Magnesium is more brittle than aluminum, which means mag wheels will have more of a tendency to crack over aluminum when you hit a pothole/road hazard. Aluminum usually just bends unless you really hit something hard. Magnesium does however have a higher "bolt load" rating which makes it's use more common in race only wheels as the racing surface is smooth and you're in a high hp race car. You don't see rally teams using mag wheels for a reason.

the adapters bolt to the hub and thenallows for the mono lug wheel to be put on. the bolts that hold the adapter to the hub serve as drive pins and prevent the wheel from spinning on the mono lug

I'm not knocking you or calling BS, it just seemed weird to me that a BBS magnesium wheel would not be any lighter than some of their cast alu offerings, like the RC, RK, etc. A few years ago, I grabbed a huge (18x11 maybe?) BBS mag wheel while at PTG and the thing seemed almost fake - it was so crazy light.

But if you throw in the weight of the lock nut and associated hardware here, these are likely heavier than an RC, RK . . .

Why would BBS make a cast alu mono lug wheel? I dunno, for show purposes, maybe???

Its a very cool/unique wheel. Good luck with the sale.

awwsheeet
03-28-2006, 11:41 PM
nah 18 lbs is with the weight of the nut and hub

i mean i wanted to give a true representation of what weight woudl be

the pure magnesium wheels are really light....like F1 cars with the tire is liek 8 lbs total

this is alloy so its a percentage of the wheel is mag.

ok so to recap: these are 18 x 8.5 powder coated black and offset of 25.

that's a little low for the e36 rear. you would need to flare the fenders a bit depending on the tire. you may be able to get away with a 225/40 but it would look stretched.

These are E36 Supertourer wheels, pretty sure you will find they are only 8.25x18 if you measure correctly. Also, on the Supertourer the brake hats fit over the OUTSIDE of the titanium centre hubs, but you will probably get away with mounting these on top of the brake hats, they just weren't really intended to be fitted this way. Really a race car wheel, not roady.

if indeed they are 8.25 wide then the 25 offset would still be aggresive but they will be a much easier fit! that 1/4 inch gives you back just shy of 6.5mm from the fender.

but is the et25 measured with the hub adapter plate or without. cause if it is measured without, then we have to take the thickness of the plate into account and that would lower the offset even more.

yep 2 nuts and 2 hubs are lefty loosey righty tightey.

the remaining 2 hubs and nuts are the opposite. this way the motion of the car doesnt spin loose your nuts

you should torque them down but what you do with them is up to you. comes with a breaker bar so you can do it hand tight. the drive on the massive socket is 1 inch

yeah man hit me up.

people might wonder why its taking so long to sell. but the truth is the wheels arent for everyone. at 3000 its expensive and alot of people dont want the black on black look (even when you can paint it) the wheels are matte and the center lug is weird and people are afriad/lazy to switch back and forth. i can do a 4 wheel swap in 30 mins. with one jack in front of my house......but you know how people are. im not in a rush to sell these and if you look at my bumps...i only bump it once in a while not 3 times a day

what would you have to torque these to?

Steve J.
12-20-2006, 07:41 PM
Well, they are not very practical for a street car, and for clubracing they are not very practical either.

Maybe for a showcar to have something unique, could be worth it, but it'll be tough to find a buyer.

As for the torque, depends on the exact thread pitch/size, but usually an application like this is in the range of ~300-350.

If you ever get a flat or don't have the nut with you and a wrench for it at all times, you're screwed.

not true. the deal comes with a one inch drive breaker bar. the nuts that hold the wheel on are reverse threaded. 2 spin one way and is for your driver side and two spin the other way for the passenger side....many cars with limited space come with a can of fixiflat and no spare. included is the vw r32 and the mini cooper. vettes and others have run flats with no spares. as a mg alloy theres no fear that if you curb these you will burst into a uncontrolable white flame explosion. be real man. f1 cars and nascars crash all day. the ignite point on mg is in the thousands. and mag ally is even higher. your not going to explode. as for torqueing them down you should do ti to spec (call bbs racing america) but you will not spin these nuts off cause of reverse threeading and theres a cotter pin that will prevent it. (its red)

as for a 5th wheel i can get it for you if you need it for less than bbs america charges (1800) lets worry about the first 4 first.

Why are you talking about the wheels exploding? Who said anything about the wheel bursting into flames :confused

As a one peice Magnesium alloy rim you are also more likely to bust a rim up from a big pothole.

Reverse threading one one side is debatable actually. Because of the chance of brake lockup and spinning the rear tires, you can get in a situation where it will try to "unthread" the nut.

Also, many cases of flats are something a can of fixaflat cannot help.

The wheels are cool, no doubt, but as you can see from this for sale thread going on forever...they just are not practical.

someone said in one of the previous pages abotu them bursting into flames. we all went to highschool. you can use a torch to light up some shavings of MG and have ti burst into flames. but a 18 pound forged chunk? not so likely. you didnt say it...someone else did...i wanted to dispel the rumor.

if you hit a pothole big enough you will wreck these and any other wheel. as for being forged and mg the chances of you bending this is unlikely. and if you wreck these wheels you be probably in a situation thats a little more serious than hitting a pothole.

the wheels do not spin on the hub cause of the drive pins. the wheel will spin 1 for 1 with the stock hub, the brake rotor, the monolug hub and the 5 pins that are holding it. if there was no drive pins and the wheels were held alone solely with the nut you will not be able to move as the wheel willl spin freely on the mono hub. the drive pins act as the 5 lug bolts you have on a normal wheel its jsut that in this case the big nut is holding the wheel on.....not the 5 bolts.

the only way the nut will untread itself is from vibration and from rotational inertia. and because its reverse threaded rightly tighty for driverside and lefty tighty for passenger side (like carrea gt's and mc12's which are color coded for your convience) it will not untread itself. as well has having a cotter pin which will not let the nut fall off in any situation whateso ever.

in many cases a can of fixaflat might not be enough to take you home. in which cause you can take off the big nut and 5 drive pins and put a stock spare on the car.

as i see it the thread is taking forever. i had 2 people leave me deposits and default on them. i will post the names when i get home..why not right? but im not selling fliks or koseis or rotas. these are 3000. im firm with the price and its a specialty wheel. not right for 99.99 of the bmw owners out there. 99 percent arent even bimmer world posters. im looking at a small small fraction of 1% of all bmw owners in the word. so its going to take time

but at the same time im selling them for less than bbs lm's of the same size. as they are 792 each at tirerack for 18x8 which is 3160 something.

i mean less than bbs lms which can be store bought. these are mg and monolug and slightly more rare. and id keep them as you can see this thread is going on forever

if i was selling cheapo wheels for 600 im sure it would fly off the board no problem...im not being cocky...im just saying.

as for them being practical on the street...i dont think a cage is practical nor anything over 300 horsepower. but hey its still cool right?

awwsheeet
12-21-2006, 01:15 PM
also...i was just thinking about brake lockup or giant rear wheel burnouts (reverse burnouts cause they are reverse threaded) that if its good enough for a supertourer DTM touring car. im sure your cute little road race car or street monster or show car will be ok.

Great wheels for a showcar. For a street car, driving around with a 4 foot tube in the trunk (for the required 350ft.lbs torque) might not be ideal. It is a very narrow niche market. And for a race car? Just very few racers would buy as they usually need a set of 12 or 16 rims, between practice tires, race tires, rain tires etc.

Perhaps there will be a time when the price will be low enough so that people can buy the wheels to hang on a wall. Christmas 2007?

if money flowed out of my a$$, i would buy them and use them on the street and track. it's almost sacreligious to hang these on a wall just to look at.

Keep on saying what you want to. There are numerous of people who you have ripped off. So you do 1 good transaction, and then 1 bad. Doesnt make you a good seller. I would suggest for people to check out the thread that i made on awwsheeet, and see how he responds to stuff. Ask yourself then if you want to have that kind of seller? More info can be found here http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=767700 and you will see the true seller behind the name.

Well im not interested but i will vouch for this sellers credit since he has a whole 10 posts!!!

Awwsheeet ( Eric, is what i think your name is) has been a long time member of vwvortex.com as have I. I also bought some clear sidemarkers for my jetta from him over 2 years ago and he was a very good seller with good communication, so he has been around.

Do not worry about the low post count, he is a good seller!
