Apparently I am missing the undertray and potentially the cover for the undertray on my E36 M3 coupe. If anyone has a pic handy of what a completely assembled undertray looks like that would be great. Basically I need a pic of what an E36 M3 looks like from underneath the front with fully assembled undertray pieces. Sounds like a shot in the dark, but maybe someone out there has it :). Thanks!

I've traversed through www.realoem.com so I know what it technically looks like. I just want to see a real pic so I can identify what exactly I am missing or not missing. I definitely require the undertray. But a friend mentioned I need a cover as well that allows the undertray to attach to the front bumper. I may or may not already have that.

this isn't what you are asking for but I just wanted to mention the JTD underpanel in case you haven't heard of it. it is an aftermarket underpanel that will last alot longer than the plastic stock underpanel pieces.

Thanks. I'll look into the JTD underpanel. Do you know if I require the covering piece that seals the stock underpanel's gap between the radiator and the underpanel if I go with the JTD underpanel?

Also, why did this thread get towed? And what does that mean?

don't worry about the tow, they moved the thread to the best forum where it would get the most responses from other E36 M3 drivers.

the JTD completely replaces the stock underpanel, yes it covers the area between the bumper and radiator.

here is a link with the underpanel:

I 2nd getting the JTD underpanel instead of the stock plastic peices. Make sure when ordering you specify if your car is a manual or auto. Install takes about 20 minutes average if everything goes fine. You might want to check both your wheel wells if they need to be changed while your down there.

Thanks. I'm really considering the JTD underpanel. It seems like a good buy. Another method described on another forum was to reinforce the stock underpanel by mounting metal brackets at key corners of weakness. But that seems like a lot of work and detailed craftsmanship that I don't have :).

Do you know if all the mounting pieces (screws, brackets, etc.) come when purchasing the JTD underpanel?

it comes with everything, but like the other guy said, you should check and see what shape your plastic wheelwell liners are in as they are a mounting point for the JTD.

I'll just say that if your stock underpanel has detatched, your wheel well liners probably need to be replaced too. I replaced my underpanel (with an OEM one) a couple of months ago, but I also need to do the wheel well liners. It's a job I dread. The design of those underbody plastics is really quite poor.

Thanks for the advice. I actually did check the wheel wall liners while I was under there and they appeared OK. All the screws were accounted for and there didn't appear to be any visible cracks at all. It also felt securely mounted. Anything else I should check for?

What are the aftermarket wheel wall liners?

Also, this may be a harder question to answer simply because I won't do a very good job of describing it. There are these rubber things on each side of where the undertray would go. They have 2 holes each with mounting brackets where it looks like a screw would go through. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, what do I do with these two pieces?

You can reinforce the mount points with epoxy and aluminum can cut-outs.

Additionally, on the stock underpanel piece, you can bypass the mounting points by going to a L-shaped bracket that anchors into the side of the underpanel.
