Just to make sure we're on the same page -
1. Press the top button to lock. (one beep)
2. Press the second button to double lock. (2 beeps)
Have you heard your alarm sound before? With a different remote?

Also check and see if you can trip the alarm with the panic button. If you cant - I'd check for the alarm siren.

FYI: Lights don't flash on double lock/arm, or unlock/disarm. You should get chirps though. Lights siren on panic and alarm too.

This happened to me, so I'll offer it up as a possible cause. If you bought this car used, the previous owner may have had a aftermarket alarm and the installer tapped into the BMW OEM wiring. With mine, I had the chirps, but no other functions. I found that much of the wiring to the connecor in the glovebox had been cut, I'm sure during removal of the aftermarket alarm. I just matched up the wire colors, soldered them together, and all worked fine.
Since you have partial function, that would be my guess. By the way, soldering under the glovebox is a PITA :mad
