Nice, flat piston compression woofer. Efficiently loud.
Now the amp....VERY good choice. That thing will put 4,800 watts continuosly for about 15 minutes. :stickoutt A keeper indeed. One of my favorite amps, especially because of the IntelliQ, a very well designed frequency/slope controlled crossover.
*EDIT* Relooked at the amp pic and I was mistaken, that thing will put over 1k.
The woofer reminds me of my past woofer, the Orion HCCA.... :(

Man I was debating hard this past week if I wanted the Treo or the TC7. Then the guy from TC sounds introduces me to the TC9 which I just couldnt resist. I guess I'll have to wait till its installed to see if I made the right choice.
I also debated if I should get the Memphis 12 mojo series and the Orion HCCA or P series. *sigh* decisions decisions. Like I said, I 'll have to wait and see.
Supposedly, its on par with the SI Magnum which is what really hooked me. From everything I've heard about the Magnum, I was immediately sold.

All I have to say about the HCCA series is....
1. it's way too power hungry
2. too sensitive to box design, you realy need intelliQ
3. too much low end bass
MOJO
1. again, too much power(needs atleast 1k RMS PER COIL)
2. $$$$$$

BTW what was the price on it, and whats the plan as far as installl goes...

I got it for $180 picked up.
I'm getting my ported box supposedly tonight. I dont know what its tuned to but I'm going to measure it out and see.
Here's what happened yesterday: I go to the factory and Steve (TC rep) walks me through every single sub he's making including those he makes for other companies like Eclipse, OZ, etc... Then he takes me to this empty fridge that contained hundreds of subs lying on shelves and on the ground. So I had quite a list to choose from. He shows me this OZ MAtrix ELITE which I really liked appearance wise but it wasnt a DVC 2ohm, which is what I need. So I ended up with the TC9.
My plans are the following:
Headunit: Clarion DXZ645MP
Front Speakers: Crystal Components CSC-505 5.25"
Rear Speakers: Boston Acoustics NX97 6x9"
Subwoofer: TC Sounds 12" TC9
Sub Amp: Orion XTRPRO1000
I might need to upgrade my battery.

I wasnt really planning to amp the speakers. I think my deck supplies more than sufficient power to the speakers. But, if worse comes to worse, I have a back up beater amp that gives 50x4 rms at 4ohms just to be on the safe side.
I havent installed the crystals yet. I'm currently running my 5.25" infinity components and infinity 6x9s on the Clarion deck. It's more than loud enough for my ears. As for the box, the minute I get it I'll take pics for ya.

if you're running that nice of a setup you should be getting an external amp for those speakers. And i dont mean a cheap legacy 4x50 or anything like that. Get something that puts out at least 75x4 or try to get 100x4
That will get you sound that matches up to all that bass in the back :alright

You know plexi will flex right? And you will lose precious energy, esepecially from a excursio hungry woofer. Even ported or not, it will flex.
Sephiroth619
10-16-2004, 09:34 PM
Forgive my newbiness but do you think its going to sound like shit?
What does flexing mean? I also heard that too much bass will cause the plexiglass to fly out into my trunk?

Naaah, your bass isn't going to sound like shit. But it is going to sound like shit compared to a box with MDF on all sides. Plexi(especially the pre-fab'ed one you have) has about a 1/4" plexiglass panel, which is very prone to flexing when the sub plays. Your plexi will not fly out if it is secured well.
What happens is the plexi will flex with the woofer's excursion, acting as a cancellation or some type of passive radiator/diaphragm which has no acoustical benefits.
*EDIT* Especially with your type of woofer, a flat-cone piston type. That thing has strong excursions.

sell the box or something, get some box plans made by somebody, u can contact JmacCACom over AIM and he can do u some perfectly easy to use plans for 8 bucks, well worth it. then just go somewhere get the cuts done if u dont have a saw, then simply put it together, its simple and ull get MUCH better sound and looks by putting together ur own custom box.

Okay, so I've decided to return the TC9 for an OZ Matrix and I'm definately getting rid of the box. It was poorly crafted and just looks like a POS. I'm getting rid of the TC9 because if I try selling it in the future, its going to be a lot harder as opposed to selling an OZ.

Matrix over the flat-cone-true-piston motor woofer?! :alright
If woofers were a true investment like what you are trying doing to them, they'd be made out of platinum.

Havent spoken to the TC rep yet but I've made an attempt to get my money back as of monday for personal reasons and was refused. A lot of his actions made me say WTF?.
1) He absolutely refuses to give me a refund. Most companies would honor the fact that people change their minds. So they have some sort of 30 day money back guarantee.
2) Upon purchasing the sub, Stephen, the TC rep did not give me any kind of receipt and the supposedly 1 year warranty was verbatim. Nothing was written. I asked him about it and he said, "dont worry, if anything goes wrong, bring it back, I'll remember you".
3) He never made any mention about the driver being one of the defective A series drivers. Even on the box that he hands me the sub in says "12A.22".
I dunno. At this point, I'm just going to try to get my money back because I dont want a lemon subwoofer.

Damm, everything is a mess right now. I made my second attempt with Stephen, the TC rep, and he's still refusing to give me my money back. He tells me at the last minute that all sales are final. WTF? You're supposed to state that before a transaction is finalized. I'm going to post my experience with TC Sounds soon on icixsound.com. Basically, theyre crooks.
I'm working with Ben (w/ED) right now, hopefully we can resolve this legally. I am forever anti TC Sounds, they also make soundsplinter subs.

So what are you going to do with this situation? Did you show the guy these pictures? What did he say about this? Does he know he scammed you, or did he get scammed himself not knowing it was an ED woofer.....or is it really a TC9 but he put the sticker on there to screw himself over...?

At this point, I'm not sure what to do. I think the TC guy deliberately knew what he was selling me. Besides, I wouldve kept my mouth shut had he simply given my money back. He insistently tells me that this is not ED's product, etc... I'm just going to email him a picture and see what he'll say.
You're powering two amps on a stock battery?

Yes, two amps on a stock battery. Here's the deal, I had two 10" M3 woofers and they were comletely too loud. Those woofers completely destroyed my rear panel, I had to put a folded towel under there now cause it's forever loose. I changed down to M Class woofers and now I am not even using half the power of the bigger amp since these drivers only need 200 watts RMS each.
Either way, this D Class is very efficient in power consumption as opposed to your Orion. In my 15 years of experience with Orion(not counting the sucky Directed days), they love juice...which is a good thing to me and I loved them for that. It means a more solid thump, quick, and accurate...given that you provide it the juice.
*EDIT* As for this guy you bought things from, wait for his response and see what he says about the serial number. Call ED and check if the serial number and design match. If it does, take him to small claims court and get your $180 back, then spread his name to others so his reputation will sink. It may sound like too much trouble, but it's all worth it in the end. People that do business like that should be shut down.
$180 to get back is a lot you know, even if you can make it in one hour...that $180 can go to gas, a VERY nice custom made box, a second amp, a new battery....etc :D

there is nothing wrong with the stock battery.....
i used to have a JBL 1200.1 and a profile ca400 while using stock battery. now im using a red top with a cadecne q4000 and a viper d1200.1 and everything works great with no dimming, the battery isnt the key to having a strong electrical system, its the alternator.

Exactly, that's why I have a high output Bosch. :D
If you watch your voltage drop when you run big amps or a big amp and a smaller one on the stock battery and alternator....there is actually something wrong. That's if your system is capable of 150A draw :stickoutt :shifty Hence my upgrade back in the days.
Either way, BMW's have a well managed electrical system. It's a must on one of the most software/electrical technologically demanding cars produced.
That's why I think ground cable upgrades in Jap cars are so popular, but not popular with German cars like ours.... :buttrock
