View Full Version : OEM Style 67 wheels on E36

Yes, it's been discussed many times - I'm very aware of this :) And I've searched... done hours of research with only choppy "maybe's" and "could be's"
I'm looking for pics or people that have pulled off having normal style 67s on their e36 and have been able to make the rears fit.
This is not a debate on "can or can't they" - they CAN fit, but what does it take?
I have some e46 M3 wheels I've been hoarding for a while but they need tires. I have a lowered bilstein suspension, but I have rear spring perches to return the rear to a stock-ish height. I've also trimmed the rear wheel well lips and dulled the edges.
All seems well so far - the question is - what size tires will make the fit?
So please post comments and pics on the subject. And please, no posting about "give up they won't fit".
PS - If anyone wants to take pics from my sig and try to photochop the wheels onto my car (with black center and polished lip, as they stand now) - feel free to :) :)
PPS - I am willing to accept that these just won't fit, or won't fit while looking good - i just don't accept that yet!

PM RascalKing. He has Style 67's on his '96 328i. Almost any OEM 17" wheel will fit an E36, I've got 17" DS1s on my car. The tallest tire I would put on them is a 45, but recommended is 40. I've got 235/40/R17s on mine.
Edit: The answer, btw, is yes. They will fit, quite easily.

What are style 67's
espguitarist

I was wrong. I mixed up 67s and 68s....RascalKing has style 68s on his car. 67s are 18" wheels and will be a little more difficult to fit. I've seen it done, however I do not know the specs for it.

Style 68's will definitely fit no problem. I have Style 68's on my 318is. You just have to use tire size 225/45/17 for the front & 245/40/17 for the rears. Good luck!

I have style 67's on my 1997 328i, but they came with them on when I bought them so Im not sure if they are all front rims or what. Ill post a pic I have on my computer that is a few months old. I just dropped them off this morning to get powercoated black.

the style 67 wheels are OEM 19s, and i think at the very least you'd need a spacer on your back hubs to make them fit right, on top of rolling the fenders. i agree with you they do fit, but from what i've read/been told it takes some manipulation for atleast the rears. if you run the style 67 fronts on your front and rear, which is think is like 225/40/19, you shouldnt have too many problems fitting them, but cramming the 255s on the back as i said takes some effort.

:redspot Man I like that! Those are staggered right? ... looking like it from the pics *squints*
edit: nope, looks like 4 fronts!
And the 67's didn't come only as 19, they came as 18 too. I have the 18s.
IMHO style 67's just don't look right on the e36.
I think replica 17s looks wrong on the e36 or just replicas in general --- there's a certain look to em that looks shitty, but grip's pics up there def sell me on the big wheels :)
Anyone comment on my prepared setup? (spacers, trimmed fenders) - Do you think it would be enough? I'm not much of an expert with tire sizes... I can guess pretty good but I def would like someone who's more mathematical to throw some ideas on the ET 26, 9 inch wide wheels --- 225/40/18 ? 225/45/18? 235/40/18?
ALSO -
If I were to grind material from the inner hub of the rear wheels - sand down and make perfectly flat then rebalance - would I be able to create needed clearance? For example, grinding away 5mm of metal would result in an offset of ET 31 correct? It doesn't sound impossible, and that small amount of material removed shouldn't hurt the structure of the wheel right?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW - Just did some math after researching numbers
From an archived post, the 15 x 7" ET47 stock wheels in the FRONT give 33mm of clearance
1 inch ~ 24mm
.25 ~ 6mm
These wheels are 2 inches wider (1 inch in each direction) so 33 - 24 = 9mm of clearance.
The offset it 21mm less than 47, so 9 - 21 = -12mm
Remember, this is clearance for the front, I couldn't find rear clearance
So that means It'll stick out about or a little less than 12mm or 1/2 inch...
Does anyone have pics of a wheel sticking out a similar amount?

I have staggered style 67's in 18inch on my 96 328is and also had them on my 98 318ti and with some rolling they fir great... Lots told me that you CANT... Lots have never tried cause you can for5 sure run staggered 67's on e36 bodys... My 328 is slammed and only on absolutly the harshest bumps at high speed can you ever hear them touch and i could probly take a bit more time and clear that out as well but you only ever hear it 1 a week so i figure o well... Some dont like the style but i love them!

If you use front wheels only (8x18 225/45/R18) you will have no problems. The rears, in 18", are 9x18 and 255/40/R18.

Oh yeah fully aware that using only fronts gets you 100% fit -- but as stated above, I don't want that - i want the ET26 18x9ers in the rear :)

As I said earlier, def not a fan of the reps! The corners are very sharp, not rounded, the slots that align with the lug nuts are shorter, and the lip is different. And I def don't want to buy 2 more fronts and re-paint and polish them... don't have the time, equipment, or place anymore.

I agree. The OEM wheels look better with the rounded edges. These were on the car when I bought it. There are certainly other OEM design I perfer, just can't reall justify changing!! Then again....

Do you have any more pictures? I would love some close up sidewall shots of the rears to see how much stretch the 225s do on that back wheel. Doesn't look like your car is lowered - do you have any rubbing issues anyway? :)

Ahhh style 5s - I agree that they are the sexiest wheel BMW ever made.
The good thing about style 5's that most people don't realize is that BBS has different offset pieces you can purchase (well... good luck finding). You can remove the center 2 pieces and find another outer rim piece with the correct offset and put together!!!
Most people don't do this... instead they run like 205's or 215s to make the wheel fit.

Hey TJN, well spotted, it's not lowered and I do have a few rubbing problems on the rears under heavy loads and some on the fronts at full lock, but I considered it a price worth paying until I moved to the country. The rims are off and I'm back to the stock steels. It hurts to know what I have back in my parents garage! I'll grab some pics from my laptop later on and post them up!

Not a troll just a busy man... I have picks on both the ti and the 328 if you could email me at jernalana@hotmail.com i will send them to you... I am running 255 40 18 on the rear right now but am gonna drop to 35 series rear and 40 fronts... Fender rollling required but they fit... And as stated above on severe corners they will rub abit but i think when i drop to 35's they should be fine... even the amount they rub now is tolerable as it isnt much and if your not tossing corners or pounding bumps they clear very well!

The TI had the active suspension so their was no rubbing issues...the 328 has the H&R race kit and has slight rubbing in rear, with 255 40 18, but i think a switch to 35 series would fix that!! Are you referring to the style 67 19s? Phew! I'm not sure what to tell you, everyone says it's 'impossible' to fit the 18s, i would imagine the 19s are even that much more difficult. I would probably 225/35 the rears...

No I don't think 225/35/19 is practical for anyone I was just throwing it out there! Did you say those are 255/30's??
These wheels stick out a good amount... the trick is to NOT make it look like a mexi-mobile with extended wheels. I'm guessing you, like me, are looking for the perfect stretched fit to make it flush with the body and tasteful right? In the pics I received from 318tiV8 you can how much the 255s can stick out... so I was thinking 235/(35)(40) --- im thinking 235/40 will probably be the safest.
Those are looking good! Would love to see the post-drop pics :redspot

I agree the 255's are to beefy... They fit decent on the Ti but its anything but normal and the rears had been pulled out abit for a flared look so it covered them better.. I also had a set of AEZ 17 inch wheels but were e39 fitment and the rims actually sat out a touch more the the rear e46 m3 rims... These style 67's are heavy though... Not bad if you are running a 500+ horse v-8 but i noticed quite a difference on the stock 328 after rim install.. Also if you drop the tires and narrow them abit more it will reduce some weight and rotating mass but the rims themselves hold a fair amount of weight!

Usually you can see BMW stamped somewhere on the naked wheel... I could be wrong with these... I haven't touched mine in about a year.
I could just tell by the edges, curves, dimensions, and lips... hehe - mine are stock 18's, you can compare them to those - except for the black part of course. If they are 17 inch they are 100% reps. If they came off ebay as 4 'fronts'... there's a big chance they're reps, but not definite. If your rears stick out like crazy then you know you got the real ones ;)

True those 19s are pretty big! Have you needed to do anything excessive to get them fit well?

Oh I'm sure there's more than one company out there making style 67 reps :) Different strokes (or molds) for different folks!

True those 19s are pretty big! Have you needed to do anything excessive to get them fit well?
Fender roll and adjusted camber bolt to full negative.. No tire wear though.. I'm pretty surprised..

sapindy do you have 4 style 67 front wheels on all 4? Or do you have the fatties in the back?

i'm curious to know as well...the PO rolled my fenders before he sold me the car, but they don't look like staggered wheels...all the same size...

I'm running staggered #67's on my E36.5 and I will say firsthand that they do not work. The rears stick out about 1"+ too far and rub. Plus, I think it makes the rear sit too high w/ a 45 profile tire. They were on the car when I bought it, but I think I'm going to put DS II's on it. I could roll the fenders, but I'd rather not.
