Well the heat this week started to take out the interior door panels on my 89 535i. Specifically right below the top of the plastic part of the doors where there is a groove. What did you guys use to re glue. Glue or contact cement and what brand? Also there was a link for the repair. I did a search but could not find it.

careful with Gorilla Glue. It does work but foams up and can make a mess. There was a thread somewhere on this. I remember someone mentioning an alternative adhesive. I know that auto body shops use a wide variety of adhesives. I bet your local body shop would help out.

I've had very good results with 3M weatherstrip adhesive. Its made to work under extreme temps and vibration.

You mean the black stuff that comes in a tube? I was thinking something along the line of the countertop contact cement they use to glue laminate countertops.

Whatever you do, do not pull off the factory material and try to reapply it. The factory material is rubber like and shrinks once removed. I could not get it to stick or stretch properly.

I would use a 2 part epoxy and brush it on, then spray on the promoter. 3m 90 spray glue was not strong enough. Gorilla glue is designed to foam up and fill in cracks, etc. It will bubble up your door and possibly make it worse.

Best to post some pictures of how bad the panel is so we can evaluate better.

i mentioned the alternative. It's called "Sticky Ass Glue," no joke!

it's great because it doesnt set-up untill you apply water. Also it work exactly like gorilla glue, without the bubbleing up and expanding. It also gives you a ton of working time. Witch is good in these kind of apps/

I've had limited success with the Gorilla glue and my door panels. It's definitely hard to clean up once dry. It holds well but I think it might fail over time as I've noticed one panel starting to separate again. I think I'm going to look into the 3M and stickyassglue.

Yeah I just used the Yellow 3M Weather Ahvesive, works great and only took 5 minutes. Forget about Gorilla Glue.

Was gonna try the 3M 90 spray stuff, but now it sounds like it ain't gonna work.
So, I assume this 3M weatherstrip adhesive is the way to go. I bet the DAP 2 part is probably hard to find and I only need a little bit.

I'm only redoing one insert...for some reason the rest have survived.

Is the 3M weatherstrip stuff available at Pep Boys and the like?

Don't know about Pep Boys but a good auto parts store will carry it. I used the 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive.
