I know there have been quite a few threads recently regarding carsoft and the install process, cables, etc. however i cant seem to find the answer i am looking for. I have installed the software, bought the cable and ran a diagnostic on my car (E46 M3). It read all the available modules, but did not read the live data. Also the interface box had only 1 led lit up while running the diagnostic. I am using a usb to serial converter set to com1. How many lights should be lit up? I am confused because it seemed like the software was running fine?
Today i attempted to scan a 1992 325i via the 20 pin under the hood, and again i was able to scan the car, but not all the lights were lit up and it would not read the DDE/DME codes. It did find the other available modules and gave the the associated faults.
Should i be trying to reload the software, do i have a faulty box, or am i just doing something wrong?
Like i said, it can read the codes on my E46 (without live data), but was having some issues with the e36 (no DDE/DME module, no live data, no special features). Any help would be great and thanks in advance!

I'm curious about this as well. I'm about to purchase carsoft for my e46 m3. where did you buy your cables? I'm looking at some on ebay.

I Bought my cables from jeffalf on ebay. The cable came in 2 days and seems to work good. I just have to get these few issues taken care of.

Not being able to read live data is unusual, normally I get questions relating to members being able to get live data but the program crashing when they attempt a diagnostic. My interface lights all but the service reset LED when it is doing a diagnostic or live data on my 1998 e36 but I use a laptop with a serial port. If you have access to a machine with a serial port or PCMCIA adapter, you should be able to test if the problem lies with your USB to serial adapter settings. Not much help on this one I'm afraid.

Thats what i was afraid of. I have tried 2 different usb-serial adapters, one did not work and one did. I will have to see about trying another laptop.

+1 that the issue could be with usb to serial adapter

I have the same issue. Everything works fine except for "AutoLock" (the setting can be selected but it doesn't lock the doors at speed) and live data. It reads all zeros, with no errors being reported.
I saw a video of someone showing live data on a 540 and that got me thinking. They have the Bosch DME, and the sixes have Siemens DME. Maybe it doesn't work on Siemens DME?
Has anyone got live data to work on an 525/528/530?

Yes, on an 01 525i.
That's when using a laptop with a real serial port. I tried a couple of USB to serial adapters with zero success.

Thanks! I tried it on 2 laptops, one with USB to serial adapters and one with a real serial port and got the same results, zeros on live date, but everything else works.
When you got tried the usb to serial adapters did Carsoft function OK except for live data showing all zeros??

I'm using an IO Gear USB to Serial adaptor, and everything works fine. The only thing I can't get to work is the ABS/Asc codes...

The only USB to serial adapters that work 100% correct are the ones based on the Prolific and some other (don't remember company name) chips
Prolific is the cheaper of the two, so all in all a better buy.
Be sure do download the latest drivers from the manufacturers website, some even provide 64 and 32 bit Vista drivers
Cheers

I have the same problem with mine (Sep 2004 325i M54) I tried two different laptops (both with built in Serial) and a USB-Serial adaptor. I also tried every different version and combination of Carsoft 6.5 software and cracks, still, always Zero.
Then I tried it with my workmates 2002 325i (also M54 of course) and it worked like a charm, I'm waiting for him to go out to lunch to test if the autolock set saved on his (it didnt on mine).
I know that in the sales information it says it supports all engines up until 2004, which hints that it supports all engine software up until 2004 and not the engine (as the M54 was still being made in 2005 and 2006). I had the software on my engine updated to the 'latest' verion by a dealer a month or two back and from memory mine read on the diagnostic as 81 or something, where the car that worked had 53,
I can only presume the software on my engine is too new to get live data with Carsoft 6.5, I guess thats why 6.7 and 7 are out.
At least I know my 'box' isnt faulty.

Thanks for posting this... It is nice to know that the cables and software do work, but it sucks that it doesn't work on our cars :(

(Damn forum ate my first post because I posted a URL)
No problem. I looked around for info myself, but only really managed to find yourself with the same problem, so I thought I'd share what I found out.
As it turns out, I have Software Nr 81 not 83 (I edited my first post), and the autolock did work on my workmates car, but (of course) not on mine.
There were some other differences in the DME info other than the SW Nr though:
Everything Works:

Doesnt Work:
w w w.skunk0001.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/e46/CARSOFT/325_DME_2.gif
At least the error/diagnostic is ok, which is the important part. The live data looked pretty useless. I'm waiting on an ELM327 for all my live code/graph/dyno 'fun'. Its half the price of Carsoft and if it all works will be sweet.

Can only confirm that I cant read Live Data from DME either on my 525iT -03. Everything else is working great can actually read Live data from EGS.
I also have software V.81. Got the DME updated in feb 2006 so this might be the problem. Is there some one with this software or newer that actually can read live data?

I also have DME software v81 and live data does not work. It looks like that is the root of the problem :(

I did some more searching around and it seems that (according to the internet archives of the carsoftinternational page) carsoft 6.5 only supported engines (which really should say engine software) up until 10/2004.
I would post links, but it seems the forum doesnt value my input enough to allow me to do that....
Carsoft 6.7 CIS was the first one that claimed to support anything after 10/2004. Although there doesnt appear to be any way to get that software for without buying it (if I'm wrong, let me know).
Also, almost every ebay advert for these devices say that it can do a 'Smooth Running Test / Injector Test', which is straight up lies, since the ability to do that wasnt added until Carsoft 7.
I think it was the butler that did it....

Hi, does anyone has some news about it ?
I have the same issue.
On my friend's 330 CI E46, it worked like a charm
But on mine, it doesn't.
I have exactly the same issues as you.
