Who has experience with this? I'm just taking the 3 rears out.. i messed up the glass in the '82 due to... lets say lack of experience welding :rolleyes

thanks ppl

Rear Window: Remove bottom corner locking clips.(pry off w/ screwdriver if need be)
Pry out center locking strip (2 peice-bottom & top.)
If you have help have some one push the top of the window gently up & out till glass pops out of moulding. Start at one corner and move across. Once window is loose at top just lift out of car.
If by yourself use one hand to push from inside at one corner, Once it pops loose work the window out of the molding across the top. Once it is loose ...lift out.
Rear glass is pretty strong and not nearly as fragile as the front.
If you dont care about the molding get a razor knife and just cut the molding off.
Rear quarter window: Remove plastic strips on side post and LOOSEN 10mm nuts inside the post. Unscrew latch mechanism and pull windows out.
I did mine by myself so it's no big deal...you can do it! I took the rear quarter windows out before removing rear window.
Hope this helps....good luck.

You say LOOSEN the screw as if you have had experiance removing them completely only to find out once they fall, its goodbye for good :stickoutt

Would you mind if I added this DIY to the docs in E21Legion.net?

Well I did this a couple days ago, and it went exactly as described, thanks for the help. Did you happen to install a rear windshield aswell?? :D I'm set to put the rear windshield back in, but am wondering if i should just pay someone the $50 and get a pro to do it.. looks like it might be a pain! and just a note fyi, the side rear glass out of a '78 is slightly different than an '82. The bottom part of the chrome frame is definatly larger on the later cars. there is an extra little lip of chrome along the bottom. only someone like you or me would notice.. but definatly there..

Installation of rear window.
Tools needed: 1 Qt. spray bottle w/60/40 water/liquid soap solution.
heavy duty plastic pry or shaped wooden pry.(I used a wooden kitchen spoon ground flat and tapered.)
Small rubber mallet
Remove rubber seal. Inspect mounting lip for rust and deterioration. Repair any defective areas or there will be leaks.
If rubber molding is reusable...clean thoroughly inner and outer channels.
Compress outer channel (mounts to car.) by squeezing together. This insures a tight fit when installed.
Install rubber gasket to car starting in one corner and working around. Make sure it is fully seated...especially the corners.
Lubricate inner channel on bottom then slide glass into channel. Work side to side to seat. Once in, proceed to corner and using fingers and pry work glass into gasket. Lubricate side inner channel. Move up side to next corner. Using a firm "slapping" technique from window toward gasket seat glass into channel. Work glass into corner and re-slap. Lube top inner channel. Go across top to next corner and repeat process. The bottom last corner may be really tight, If it doesn't go in easily lube entire inner gasket by lifting edge up and spraying. slap windshield around edge and insert pry between glass and gasket and rock the pry back and forth while pulling the lip of the gasket back. Work firmly but carefully. It should pop right in.
Locking Strip: 2 pieces.
Soak in hot water for 10-15 min. to make pliable. Do top piece first. Start in bottom corner and lube channel. Slide end in about 3" from corner and push down and in to seat. Edges of channel need to be flush to the top of the lock strip. Use light weight rubber mallet to seat firmly IF NEEDED. BE GENTLE Using pry work strip into channel by pushing down on strip. Go up to corner using same method. Have patience w/ corners. They can be RPITA. Go across top using lube and firmly seating the lock strip. Do other top corner and work down to end. Generously lube bottom channel and insert lock strip about 3 or 4 in. from end and slide into position. work strip into gasket and seat.
If done correctly there should be little to no gaps in the bottom corners. I worked in a little rubber sealer as a precaution. Install corner clips.
That's it. Hope this isn't too late to help you.

No, definatly not too late. I just dropped off the rear glass to a friend of mine to get tinted before i put it in. Did you use any type of sealant in the groove where the glass sits? Wondering what to do there.. thanks for the help!

did not use any sealant anywhere, My rubber moulding was in excellent condition. I've had no leaks a year after I diid this. Take your time and do it only once w/o forcing it. Works for me. I hope your results are as good!

soapy water or spray silicone lubricants work well to ease installation and to act as the sealant. Nothing else is needed to seal them up.
