Phazer and myself removed his tow bar today, it took about 2 hours to do. He never uses it and it looks damn ugly...
Here's an explanation on how we did it, btw thats me in the pics...
Firstly, remove the std rear diffuser.
get underneath and remove the 2 bumper bolts, they use a spline drive.
jack up car to get to the bolts in the wheel arch
remove the bolts, there are 2 per side.
haha, my Bull Terrier inspecting the job...
slide off the bumper
tow bar and strut
remove the 4 bolts per side
almost off
cut the wires to the towbar, make sure to insulate them.
Guess what I'm doing next weekend![]()
finally off.
now the strut is joined to the bumper mounts, so we gonna cut em off. get the trusty angle grinder
Angle grinders are fun, notice my cheesy smile...
cut them off just at the bend
the tow bar cut off, just this thing weighs about 10 kilograms...
now smooth off and spray the mounts with spray paint to stop them rusting.
now fit them back onto the car, bolt 'em on nice and tight.
both back in place.
WOW
refit the bumper, opposite to removal
put new diffuser on, the old one was cut out for the tow bar. We fitted an M3 rear diffuser.
And finally, the finished product. Now Phazer must get a nice twin chrome tip exhaust......
i think this thread is just a waste ..its basically common sense and plus not many people i see have tow bars on their bmw's
SO, give him props for being a DIY guy !!!!
