I'm currently trying to work out a lot rental with the Kena Shrine, if you guys have heard of them. It's basically the twice the length of the Harry Grove lot, but only half as wide.

Nothing is final yet, but I'm trying to gauge how many participants there would be.

    Here's a general mockup:

Any advice/tips on the course layout, etc. would be MUCH appreciated.

This could be fun ... I'd be in (price/date dependent of course).

I would be interested in the date and cost.

My only concern would be safety. If you're not going through an organization, how do you plan to get insurance to CYA? Also, there doesn't seem to be enough runoff room throughout the course. Also, the finish is aimed right at the start ... what happens when stuff goes incredibly wrong and the car can't stop???

    Just my $.02.

I don't think that lot is a good candidate for autocrossing.

I imagine myself running that course (how it's drawn out) and

Is it really that big? I don't think it would be a good idea though.

    It's about 300x120ft or so.

The lot has no poles or anything. Ignore that course layout, it was just an example. Although, the finish is about 150 feet before the start line. Also, the pre grid would wait in that enclave away from the line of the finish line, in case something went horribly wrong, accelerator instead of brakes and WOT all the way.

We might run this thing through an organization as well, most of it is up in the air at this point.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I will look into the insurance thing, along with waivers.

I'm capping the entrants to 20-30 guys at most. Price will probably be $20-$30 for 12-18 minutes of runs for each person plus an untimed run for the last hour.

So, far the guy is willing to put this idea through to the local committee, it would be another month before I can lock in any kind of date...if it clears.

I would like building a list of interested folks ahead of time.

You may want to consider all the official, sanctioned events in the area when planning a date ...

I would also check with the police dept, both local and state. An autox I attended several years back in Springfield got 'visited' by police. Lot we were using was a high school lot, and the organizers (experienced and well-established group) had permission from the county and school. I can't remember if it was state police or FFX county police, but they told us any activity that could be construed as 'reckless driving' is not allowed no matter what permits we have. Some of us were even threatened with tickets.

I was already planning on contacting the FFX Police and getting their permission. Thanks for the heads up though.

I'll ask my neighbor if I see him this weekend (Loudoun County Sheriff) and get his take on it.

Thanks Jon. I think technically they can't give you tickets or anything, but it will be good to get their endorsement anyway to keep good relations.

Wow, thats small. I just looked at the Sykesville Lot which is also on the "smaller" side, and it is 600x300ft.

EDIT: The lot measures 150x800' on Google Earth. This might be OK. The course would have to be a "down and back" type of course, which is still fun.

They were going to issue tickets for our 'driving recklessly' and for wearing helmets while operating a car. Yeah, I know. :/

Might be different if this is a private lot.

Scott, if you could roll around some time during the week, we can check out the lot and see if it's fit for autox.

I am interested, Living in Fairfax County sucks. They are the most Politically Correct bunch of A-Holes outside California.

They give 10,000 acres to the Horsie Set but not 1 square foot for any hobby that uses an engine.

i'd prolly be interested depending on the date. if it's a private lot and you have permission from the owner, the cops cant give traffic violations there.
