Duragloss 105 is cheap and does quite well especially with their bonding agent. Even so, you still need a good claying and polishing to remove debris and swirls before using a sealant

Okay, just stop spreading misinformation. Spend a bit of time reading up on stuff like this...I'm getting tired of cleaning up here.

I at threads like this. 4500 hit it right on the head.. hit up autopia.. great forum.

There are a lot of good products out there.. ICE isn't one of them.

I detailed for nearly 6 years and still do for fun.. personal preference is a big part of it, but you can get going in a good direction on that forum.

Thanks Brady!

Spot-on about personal preference. You'll see mile-long debates about Zaino, etc.

Can you believe I still don't have a Porter-Cable? It's gotten pushed to the back-burner for so long...it's on the short-list for April.

well since im not good at this whole detailing stuff, i might as well just throw in my .02 witch isnt worth much. I am fairly newb to this, but when i first got my car the paint was rough as hell, so i waxed like 3 times, thinking it will go away. It didnt; so i talked to my nieghbor, and he sugested useing rubbing compound, and i thought that was for polishing only, so i did some research. Few minutes later i found myself at kragen, and i picked up the miguires clay bar set. Since im newb i figured it would be good since it comes with everything. So i read the directions, and i started claying, at first i f-ed up, didnt use any lube, and it was reall hard to move the bar. Re-read it, sprayed the paint, and clayed it, man what a diffrence. You can literaly feel the crapy, and dirt, and dust, and micro whatever thats in the paint coming out. I thought my paint was ruined before this, and after this it was so smooth! The kit also comes with a 4oz. bottle of their wax. Not sure what kind it is, but i like it. It gives the paint that "hard, smooth, plastic feel" Not sure how to explain, like if you tap your nails on it, it seems like its hard, but it bounces back. Anyways, my paint looks really good, and is smooth. Next time i detail, im going to try and polish, but i once again, dont know what im doing since it would be my first time, so maybe i should polish my dads car first...

I just started using a PC a couple days ago

Im good with a rotary.. very good. I've got a couple of them.

Finally picked up a PC a couple months ago and used it for the first time last night. Its soooooooooooo easy to use its stupid. You pretty much can't mess it up.

I love Zaino, and Zymol.. there are others, but I really think those two companies make the best products. Syn- for the lighter colors, and the Organic for the darker colors. Not the cheap organic stuff though.. Gotta spend 175+ to get the stuff worth using IMO.

Im picky, yet very brought with the products I use. There are a lot of great products out there, just takes time to find what works best with which kinds of colors, kinds of paint, and with you.

blah.. Im done typing.. I could go on an on.. you have to try stuff out. Its the only way of knowing.

lol at ICE.... my o my

I detailed for 3 years like kessler said it's deffinitly personal preference.

In my early days I was using meguires gold with decent results. Last year I tried Mothers and loved it.
I used Mothers clay bar, polish and wax and my car looked amazing. I would also recommend their "back to black" for all your trim

Rotary scares the piss out of me...never used one but the idea of screwing up my paint doesn't sit well with me.

I've got to find the right combo for my paint. The swirling is unbelievable, a lot of it was the PO and a lot of it is due to the fact that I have to use the DIY car washes with that awful brush. I do make sure to spray the bristles before I use it but man...

You and Nick should come to KC one weekend.. I'll fill you so full of BBQ you'll want to explode and we'll fix your cars up.

I worked on my Audi last night and tonight.. I don't have any before pics.. But I used 3M Final Cut, then Meg Dual Action compound, 3M finesse, and then threw some S100 on it since I don't ever use it..

The 3M stuff is so much harder to work with on older paint.. But I've used it so long I can generally get great results.

Crappy pics.. and the hood is done up a little on the right and the way it was on the left..

Wow dude, the Audi looks great! Damn!

I'd love to go to KCBBQville. Mmmmm...

467 miles...we'll see. That's not bad at all. Could be possible this summer.

Those pics are horrid. srsly.

You should come out.. so much good BBQ people in other cities have no idea what BBQ is.

As you can see I have lifts and lots of tools to use.. so you can plan a project or two.

I'd love to have an E34 meet here in KC sometime. Its located smack dab in the middle of the country and I could plan an awesome drive, we could snag good food.. the possibilites are endless.

I use Maguires NXT Tech Wax, gets rid of small scratches, even some clear coat spider webbing. Give it a try and compare.

Yeah you are right that it does not last that long. But its the best bang for your buck if you want your trim looking good for a week or so.
Iv also used it on my unpainted sideskirts and it looked pretty good. When I do my suspension in a week or two I plan on doing a full detail so pics will be coming soon
