Nope, the highest output gtr i have come across is only 600 awhp. A 1000HP GTR will run you damn close to 100K if you wanted a proper job done. Oh and ATTESA is nothing new, i dont what new tech you guys are talking about but Porsche has been doing the exact same thing for years Nissan just refined it and put it in a cheaper shell.
Tuning a car isnt a cheap process but Ive seen about as many 1000hp skylines as I have 600+hp E46 M3s and the Skyline tuning has been around forever the turbo tuning for the M3 is just coming out now. 600hp is pretty decent power anyway, which the new GTR will prolly get pretty close to which just some tuning and minor mods. The new M3s will need significantly more.

They could bring em over in limited numbers several hundred, or do it on an order only basis.

There were only 120 or so LTW's, and they couldnt get rid of them.

Something like that requires ferderalizing/safety testing etc., which costs a lot of money. I've read articles saying that had BMW brought the CSL over here it would probably be a $100k+ car, and for that kind of money I would have a 911.

I do think it would be cool for BMW to do it, and if the economy turns around there probably wouldn't be a shortage of buyers, I just don't see it happening tho.

Might as well add my 2 cents.

The older GT-R will mod easily to about 500-600 hp. 1000 hp is a stretch... lots of broken parts and non streetable mods and of course lots of money. But I have seen several 700-900 hp GT-R's.. I use to race them in my 443 RWHP RX-7... you never know when they might have a bad day.

The price difference between the GT-R and the M3 shrinks significantly when you add all of the standard features in the GT-R to the M3 base price. DSG, premium, technology, cold weather, extended leather , 19" wheels..... that is over $10K in options.

Also I don't understand the negativity to the dual clutch tranny. It's so nice the M3 will have their own version. I drove a manual for 20 years and yes they do offer a bit more control but the DSG trannies are faster in a straight line, faster on the course, faster in the shifts, and much more docile in traffic.

I can't believe anyone would think that the GT-R is ugly... You've got to see one in person... Ugly is a.... Viper.

I agree with you especially about the m3 lost its rawness. But dont believe the gtr really turned a 7:38 time around the ring. That was not a fully dressed gtr.

I mean the GT-R was purposed to destroy a 911 turbo. The M3 was purposed to do everything well. M3s have always been purposed to be an extremely usable sport car for everyday and for the track. Plus no way would I compare the 2 since there GT-R has a V-6 almost the size of the M3s glorious V8. And the Horsepower difference isnt extreme. Add 2 nice turbos on the M and the GT-R will wish it'd never been created.

Edit: i couldn't tell you which I'd get. It depends on the comfort of actually driving one. Which if business goes well in the next year I probably will.
You wouldnt have to throw turbos on the m3 just wait for the csl version.

I guess they switched to Super GT to bring in other car makes. Porsches, and some others are/have been running in the series with little luck. I wonder if BMW will field an M3 in the series now that the GT-R is a contender in the market.

Japanese aftermarket companies have been waiting and anticipating on this new GTR coming out so they can do the same thing as they did to the older R32-R34.
Remember tho... the r32/34 had completely different motor platforms than the gtr does. even tho i heard they put this new gtr through some crazy torture tests.

Has anyone mentioned the 15-20K difference in price? That's significant.

The GT-R has definitely lost a lot of points with me because ITS NOT A SKYLINE!! The G37 is the official Skyline in Japan. I highly doubt that the GT-R will have the staying power as the previous RB26DETT powered Skyline GT-R. Overall, I'd take the M3.
I agree... this new gtr motor has not been proven to be able to make easy hp like the old rb motors so ppl can stop assuming now.

I am selling my 335i now so I can get either the M3 or the GT-R. I will need to drive both before I will make my decision. I really want the M3 but the GT-R could suck me in if it is half as good as they say it is.

BMW over the years has been know to make one great car after another. Especially their M cars have been considered to be the trend setters.
With the reviews comparing the new M3 and the R35 its clear that the experts put the R35 way in front of the M3. I am huge BMW fan but i think it will be a huge disappointment.
BMW has fallen back on their game and i feel they have to regroup and make a awesome product like they did with the M5.
Its not good enough anymore to build a good car and put a M logo and bmw emblem and expect the crowd to follow.
The R35 as the experts called it is a baby Veyron which out handles the M3 and is a better car in every aspect.
The R35 will dominate for years to come

Yeah, but isn't Nissan coming out with a lighter more powereful GT-R, like the Spec V or EVo or something like that?

Compare that to the CSL

yeah i heard they are but i think it will only be lighter (around 3300lbs i think)not more power. But the thing is just like nissan did with porche, bmw will have the upper hand just because they know what there up against. But bmw may not even see the gtr as competition.

I dont want people to think im all bmw and i dislike the gtr. I am a car guy. Bmw is my favorite but that dont mean its always the best. I infact i think the r34 gtr can match the e92 m3 given the same power. But bmw can raise the bar at any time they feel fit. Just as they did when Audi posed a threat with the rs4. When they built the e46 csl there was no doubt who was on top. If bmw goes through with a e92 csl and they do target the gtr, i have no doubt bmw will build a better car.

Call me crazy but at least in my more middle-aged demographic, I could see myself buying an M3 but could not see myself in the GTR in the same way I can't see myself in a Viper. To me the BMW is a sports sedan and the GTR is more a pure GT or sports car. If I was shopping in the 911, Corvette, etc. category I would certainly consider the GTR (which is a compliment to the GTR). My wife would be convinced I had really had a mid-life crisis if I showed up in any car with that big of a wing.

This is what I read, if this is true, then BMW is really going to have to bring it to beat this thing in performance. They would basically have to build a car that would outperform every car on the road.

The standard GTR will be priced at roughly $57k, the V SPEC $67k and the EVO version $94k. The standard GTR and V SPEC will hit the 480hp while the EVO reaches 530hp from the VQHRTT engine and weighs in at 220lbs less than the standard GTR.

Yes true, Porche which was targeted with the gtr can make a car better than the gtr. But this thread is about the gtr vs the m3. Just to throw it out there... what car company right now is showing the innovation and techno prowess that bmw is showing? Porche, Ferrari, Lambo has been building the same cars for many years now with minor advances (more power, suspension tweakes, aero tweaks, etc). The gtr has every bit of nissan technology in it. Bmw on the other hand just came with a whole new line of cars with brand new geometry, platforms and engines.

BTW, What exactly is plasma coating and its affects? I know the basics about it but how it actually does its job is what im looking for? For those who dont know... The gtr comes with plasma coated cylinders.

Nissan also has plans for a light weight GT-R. Rumor mill of course, but it will also be stripped down to save weight and be offered up at 530 hp! That will be a monster.

Personally, I wish I had the $$$ because I would easily buy an E92 M3 CSL and the light weight GT-R! Both cars will be fantastic.

Well I have not driven the new M3 or the Nissan GT-R and both cars are totally hot cars, I'm in tuned with a german performance car's because it seems its more of a meld between car and driver to be one. I couldnt imange seeing a GT-R lasting 100k miles like german performance cars like Bmw,Audi or Porsche. I would rock the M3 anyday..

I would have to say the M3 because its not a wanna-be like the GT-R. The M3 knows what it is.

If the NISSAN GTR is being compared & has similar characteritics to a 997 Turbo - GTR all the way! If you read, had better lap time at NURB RING --- all I can say is WOW - that is a supercar to have...0-60 in 3.5 secs does 1/4 in 11.67 secs!

$70K fully loaded
$70K plus options on the new M3

Love the new NISSAN lines!
