Wow, 415 lbs out. How much did you have to put back in (seats, roll bar, etc)?

Nice list. What are you weighing things with?

I weighed the steel E36 trunk lid at 31.5 pounds a couple of weeks ago. Yikes!

What's the race weight of the car as it sits now?

edit: Do you still race on stock wheels??? There's lots of weight to be removed yet. LTW5 17x9 = 16.6 pounds.... PM me.

heck, the 18.7 pound 18x10s are lighter than the stockers. And they are b-b-b-bigger!

    Too many.
With Cobra Seats, sideplates, vac mounts, rollbar, CF LTW wing, splitter, momo wheel, LTB Qr Ive added back about 135-145lbs.

Fair: I use a warehouse pallet scale or a UPS shipping scale.

At the last corner balance with 3/4 tank of fuel, Cobra seats, Kirk Rollbar and full interior, no radio, rear speakers, stock radio amp, side trunk carpet, no asc throttle body the car weighed in at 3090lbs.

My track wheels are 17x8 BBS RX with 235/40R15 RA-1. I will be looking to get a new primary wheel set and make the BBS the rain set.

Have you gone to coilovers yet? Its a nice drop in weight, too, and about half of that is unsprung weight.

This car's struts pictured above (STi) dropped 5.5 pounds on each front corner just going to coilovers. We see similar drops in BMWs, too.

Funny, my '95 M3 (with 3/4+ fuel load) with me in it weighs 3094lbs. 2915lbs without my a$$ in the seat.

Racetech seats, Safety Devices roll bar, 5 pt harnesses replaced 3 pt. OE. Full interior forward of the rear seats (including side panels in the rear and rear parcel shelf, just no rear seat and no junk in the trunk). My car has a 5-disc changer, amp and all speakers still in place.
But I've done a few other weight savings measures too. Many of the same items you've listed plus I removed the A/C system and electric fan, cruise control among other things. The pass. side airbag is pretty heavy (15lbs-ish) and gone from my car too.
The factory airbox is heavy too.

Nice job detailing all the part/piece weights. I'll keep this list. I was too lazy to weigh each piece. I figured I'd take the part weights from the ETK if I ever needed to know.

Nice list. I'm under 2900 now... not sure of the exact # since I've removed more stuff since my last corner weighting. I also have the A/C out... I wanted to tackle the heater stuff next... I saw a plate for sale that is used to plug the hole in the firewall... thinking of having one fab instead as IIRC it was around $200

    don't ask
If you were really into it you could not only measure the weights, but their location in relation to car's center (or CG if you knew it) as well to see how the weight distribution and CG location changes.

Someone mentioned the heater core is around 15 lbs. Personally, I thought it was more. But, I never weighed mine.

The hood...depends if it's original or replacement. My original hood weighed around 47 lbs. My certifit replacement hood weighs 42 lbs. However, I plan to skin it this weekend. I'm hoping to get it down to around 22 lbs. That's still heavy but an improvement nonetheless.

Anyone know the weight of the headliner and separately, the sunroof removable parts?

I was including the front catch on both sides, shocks and hinges. But, I should've clarified that my weights were measured on a bathroom scale. Definitely not the most accurate way of measuring. LOL
But, it's for certain that the certifit hood and fenders were much ligher than the stock parts.

Great list! I just stripped out the interior this past weekend and it's nice to have an idea how much weight actually came out.

    Thanks!

Hey Tony, I bought your old SS Race. I don't think there is any baffelling left, it just keeps getting louder and louder.
When my E46 goes back I am going to be following the same route as you, makes more sense then messing with the E46.

Hi Tucker, good to hear from you! I wonder what is causing the baffelling to go (age?)... does it still sound good? Any problems? I want my borla I have on to get louder... I plan to change it out and do a 3" pipe back from the AA track pipe I have on now.

Tony, I think the age and track time have helped to remove the baffelling. I like the way it sounds, at 7K it screams, I don't even need to look at the tach anymore. I get positive comments from guys at the track all the time.
    Good Luck with your projects.

Good to see all that weight coming out! Sometimes I forget how heavy E36's are. ; ) As a legal JS car mine weighed 2740 with ~3/8 tank of fuel. Since then I've gotten the car down to 2500 with ~1/4+ of fuel. And I have put no money into weight, this is only removal.

From a some calculations I've got going on my list I've another 210lbs to come out yet and that's not really working hard to get stuff out. It's at the point now where it's a bit more than just unbolt and discard but not much futher. Granted, there are 2 or 3 ltw body parts in there but it's almost a must, the weigh/$ is quite good...so much that it's worth the money. Those bits are a little over 40lbs of that.

Now over the winter when I get the new cage I'll probably add back in 75lbs but that's fine. The improvement in chassis stiffness and suspension efficiency will be wellllll worth it. The cage now is a pretty basic 6pt welded cage. I will likely do tower to tower since I'm switcing to coil overs in the rear.

So if I can drop the 15-20lbs I've put on myself as ballast that would be nice too. I should have to add about 75-85lbs of ballast to be where I need to be...and I'll have to run a bit heavier on fuel. I have to be careful about how much HP I add though so I don't get stuck in GTS3 without the power to even have a chance.

I gotta say though, removing weight is awesome!

Damn, I just thought of another 15lbs that I hadn't originally thought of. It's getting really tight now....
