I've had the car for 2 yrs now, and in this 2yrs period, this car received very few mods since it was my intention to keep it as my DD. However, I've spent enough time (5yrs) and money on my Volvo project, I'd like to take a break from it before go all out.
So now comes to project E39, I'd like this car to go to SEMA this yr, if not, then next yr for sure, I'll keep this thread up to date.
so the car started out as a 1999 540IA with sports package, I bought the car after my GS400 was total'd on the way to get new wheels and suspension, I figured I wanted a 540 a long time ago, might as well take the dive and use the money difference to save up a little.
first thing I did to the car was get it lowered, I can't stand stock height hehehe. So H&R springs in they go, they lowered the car 1" all around on sports packaged cars, then fake CELIS tails, then 19" wheels.
day the car came home.
day it got lowered (my dad slapped on M emblem cause he thought it was funny, so did I, until I realize it was glued on instead of magnetic as he said).
how it looks now
phase1 incld:
OE M-tech bumpers
OE Euro-spec angel eyes

Phase 2 is aiming at no later than April of 2008
phase 3 (final) incld:

this is the volvo project that's taking a break for ones that care.
stuff arrived this week.
ACS roof spoiler
Koni Yellows all around
Ground Control coilovers.
coming next week:
OEM M-tech bumpers
Hella angel eyes with clear corners.
new wheels
yesterday, the M-tech bodykit, Hella e-codes, M6 wheels all came in.
today, my brakes are done, WP Pro 12 piston kit with 15.2" front, rear 14.8" and 6 pistons, this is a custom kit, this is our demo car for our brakes. Now just waiting for the car to be out of the bodyshop and get everything installed.
I have a relative fat hand
in comparison to a tooney
rear with 6 piston caliper.
Those brakes look amazing
How much?
Ditto on the brakes. The car looks badass, the Volvo is really bad ass!
Are you changing the wheels? to M6ers? I like what you have already... Looks like you are putting together a nice setup there... Where did you get the Ground Controls? ...
I cannot find GC's for the E39.... What is the part number?

The Harder I work, the better I live!
I agree, current rims look great. Good luck with your project, those brakes look sick
Current:'05 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6-R 636, '91 BMW E30 318i
Past:'98 Acura Integra Type-R, '06 Chrysler 300C, '95 Kawasaki ZX6-R
I called Ground Control and ordered it, they have it but its not on the website, simply tell 'em you want to order for an E39 528/530/540 and tell 'em the spring rate you prefer and they'll make 'em and ship 'em out in 2 weeks.
They have M5 listed, but I believe M5 has different perches or something, and the spring rate is MUCH higher.
The car has to be ready to go in a week for local show, Bimmercruise, I ordered M6ers for 'em, but they'll have a different flavor.
Is it ok to say that the cost of those brakes would put a nice down payment on a house in socal???

Got any questions about my car? Feel free to PM me!
I'm in for the additional info...looks like this is going to be a sweet car!
BMWCCA #389756
e39 Touring SOLD.
My god, those brakes look tasty. Not sure that I would go larger than nineteens on those rims.
Subscribed though, this looks very promising.
What spring rates did you order from GC? Did you get the Koni's shortened or valved for those rates or are you using OTS?
I'm using the regular yellows, Grimpy (search for his posts) was the original one told me about the availability on GC coils, I told them I have Koni yellows (may be FSD next spring) and I daily the car, I believe the rate is 350 front 400 rear? cause I recall they have suggested if I track the car often, I should go for 400 front and 450 rear which is within the limit of regular Yellow's valving limit. But I have 2 small children, and I drive my parents around often, so I can sacrifice a little to keep my family happy, after all, the Volvo will be my ultimate project.
as far as the brakes, I'll try my best to describe them without violate the rules here, since I'm not a site sponsor/vendor yet, so mod, if you are not happy with it, please let me know first and I will edit my post.
We have about 3 kits available for an e39, but I cannot give solid information since we are doing r&d for all our products right now for North America, so we may offer different kits when everything is solid. This kit you see above is pretty much a custom applications (which its a service we take pride in) but we'll have other kit available at much (I mean MUCH) less price in the very near future. Possibly something like this, a simple 6 piston set up with 13.5" rotor, this is what they run in Asian Polo Cup. If you guys have any more specific question regarding the brakes, please send me a PM

Sweet ride. I would be curious to hear how the GC coilovers ride with the konis and the 19" or 20" wheels. I am in the market for some coilovers and have been looking at the KW Variant 2. Why did you decide on the GCs? Adjustability? I am assuming you are changing the camber plates, sway bars, polyurethane bushings. Dinan makes a sick aluminum thrust arms. I am subscribing because this will be an awesome project.

M Tech Front Bumper, ACS side skirts, race mesh, grilles, front splitters, pedals, ebrake handle, gear knob and aluminum interior trim, M5 front and rear sway bars, M5 front calipers painted red and rotors, 545 shifter, Dinan CAI, Mass Air Flow Meter, Dinan Throttle Body, Dinan Strut bar, Dinan Stage 4 Software, Remus exhaust, umnitza P39s with 6000K low beams, LED turn signals, HID Fogs with 6000K bulbs, zionsville super duty cooling kit with 2 speed electric fan, Clear bra, hard wired V1 with concealed display, CDV delete, stoptech SS brake lines all around, axxis front and rear pads, pre-vanos intake manifold, m5 lip spoiler, M5 differential, SS slave cylinder line
I chose Koni + GC due to logic, don't get me wrong, KW, H&R, Bilstein etc are great with coilovers, but it makes no sense to me paying extras for suspension to look shiny when performs the same, and if I'd like to change the springs, its much simpler to take apart the GC set up then integrated coilover systems.
we were working on sorting out some issues with the brakes, simply put it, they are too big for the wheels I have (and sorry lads, not selling them), and I'm still waiting for the M6 wheels to arrive, we were also doing testing on brackets for feedback to machining dept.
sometimes its hard to realize just how big the brakes are untill you put 'em behind a wheel, I was going "oooooooooooooh ahhhhhhhhhh" but also "damn, I wonder if the wheels are big enough", for reference, the wheels are 19".
I think I just shot a load all over my desk...... Those brakes are bad-ass. Your brake mod makes us feel so cheap like a 2 dollar whore. SEMA is the place for you brother. PLease keep us updated.
The blacker the Berry....the sweeter the juice!!!!!
Holly smokes those are some big brakes. What kind of materials are you using for the hat, rotor, and caliper? Would you need a break booster for those monster's?
I feel so inadequate now with my stock set up....lol
Keep us posted on manufacturing as well as dates and locations to check them out.
I almost cried when I saw there were no more pictures.
Chigga, thanks for the responses. So you are saying that with the GC setup, you can dismantle them and change the springs if you want to? I agree, if the GC peforms just as well as other brands, why pay extra . Where did you buy the GC coilovers from? Sad that the brakes are too big for the wheels.
