hahaha damn. I think that's the worst used microfilter I've seen posted here yet. Mine was pretty bad when I first changed it, but yours looks like a garden could grow out of it.

I think I have asked this in another thread, but what are the symptoms of a clogged microfilter? Less air being blown overall?

^^^YES, if in doubt change it, did mine 3 weeks ago, very easy to do, just take the glove box and some stuff out the way...the strength of air coming out of the vents before and after is night and day

the filter almost looks like the car was in a flood..is that mud?!?

isnt' that for outside air mostly? inside recirulating air doesn't use a filter i think. not 100% sure

I think I am going to change mine after looking at that. I have never changed it since I bought the car (almost 4 years ago) and the PO probably never changed it also. Atleast we know it works

Yes, the microfilter sits in front of the HVAC unit just before the fresh air enters...and the e34 doesn't have recirculation filters. But who keeps their recirculation button on 100% of the time? The cabin air would get pretty stale, wouldn't it?

Mine was blowing less than position 1 when set on position 4 when I got the car last year. that was the first thing I changed out on it!!!

it will be the best $30 you will spend. and no it wasnt a flood....(sheesh youd think others know that you know better)....believe it or not this is a dealer maintained vehicle....ive recd's and im on BmW's tail for that..

(BMW has NEVER changed it)

That's a nasty one, for sure!!

Could be worse though.... I remember reading a while back on here somewhere about a guy changing out his micro filter and finding the mummified corpses of a few mice hanging out in there. Who knows, could just be internet bullshit, but a week later, I was under my dash pulling the thing out to make sure it was clean.

Those are the worst. The one shown ain't bad, but finding dead mice is no fun.

Pre 91 production e34's do not have a microfilter...

Unfortunately, some of us less fortunate use our lungs to filter the air, and we can't change those..
