THE E34 M5 EXTERIOR PAINT LIST:
Author's Note: "Perlcolor" is similar to the metallic finish, but is German for "Pearl Color." This applies to the finish of the paint, which has mica flakes added to create the "pearl" effect. Avus Blue or Macau Blue M5s' are the best example of the pearl finish in my opinion.
All metallics contain a metallic finish component, paint code 98.

* Arctic Silver Metallic "Arktissilber Metallic" (309)
* *Avus Blue was introduced to the M5 in 9/1992.
NOTE: The sticker in the engine bay will state "Avusblau-Metallic," but BMW offically recorded this color as "Avusblau Perlcorlor." I have a BMW Service Bulletin from 1997 that states "Avusblau Perlcolor" to be the correct name. However, Avus blue is regarded as "Avusblue-Metallic" in the BMW community. If you want a PDF of the Service Bulletin mentioned above.
* Brilliant Red "Brilliantrot" (308)
* Brokat Red Perlcolor "Brokat Rot Perlcolor" (259)
* Calypso Red Perlcolor "Calypsorot Perlcolor" (252)

* Daytona Violet Perlcolor "Daytonaviolett Perlcolor" (283)

*Diamond Black-Metallic came in two different shades, Diamantschwarz Metallic I and Diamantschwarz Metallic II.
* Fjord Grey Metallic "Fjordgrau Metallic" (310)
*14 M5 Tourings made in this color.
* Granite Silver Metallic "Granitsilber Metallic" (237)
* Jet Black "Glanschwarz" (668)
*This paint was only available for the E34 M5.
* Lagoon Green Metallic "Lagunegrün Metallic" (266)
*Introduced to the M5 in 9/1992.
* Macau Blue Metallic "Macaoblau Metallic" (250)
* Mauritius Blue Perlcolor "Mauritiusblau Perlcolor" (287)
*One of the original E34 M5 colors. There were only four US-spec E34 M5s produced with Mauritiusblau.
NOTE: The sticker in the engine bay will state "Mauritiusblau-Metallik," but BMW offically recorded this color as "Mauritiusblau Perlcorlor." I have a BMW Service Bulletin from 1997 that states "Mauritiusblau Perlcolor" to be the correct name. If you want the Service Bulletin mentioned above in PDF format.

Sonderlackierung
These are the paints produced by BMW Individual. If the refrence label on the passenger shock tower says "490" then it was painted in an BMW Individual Color. M5s after 10/94 carry a label that says "BMW Individual" on the shock tower and a more specific color description or paint code number. 92 of the M5 Tourings were ordered with "sonderlackierung" colors.
* Amethyst Metallic "Amethyst Metallic" (452)
* Aqua Metallic "Aqua Metallic" (451)
* Estoril Blue Metallic "Estorilblau Metallic" (335)
*A very common E36 M3 color, but was first used on the E34 M5. Surprised?
* Orinoco Green "Orinicogrün" (FQ 95-3450)(406)
*Orinoco Green is a BMW Individual color. It was used by BMW in 1995 for the Special Edition M5.
* Night Blue Metallic "Nachtblau Metallic" (453)
* Santorin Blue "Santorinblau" (318)
*BMW Individual special order color. Only known to be used on M5 Tourings. Similar to Audi's Nogaro Blue, as seen on the S4.

* Fir Green "Tannengrün Metallic" (454)
The M emblem colors:
* Pantone Process Blue
* Pantone 268

Wow. This is useful. And really pretty to look at, too. My own E34 photo collection is almost entirely black ones, so it's a good contrast.
Personally, though, this one's my favorite:
I know it's overexposed (or high-contrast, or something...), but still...
(Anyone know if it's possible to get a car to look like this in real life? Maybe with less shine/glare, but keeping the bright ultradeep blue/black thing)
Not my car but a great rare color. Can't confirm if it came on the M5.
cirrusblau metalllic

I suppose that it's an Individual color too, no?
Yes I've been there too and it was it who gave me the idea of doing this... It always says the color but we can never see it!Wrote this years ago, got lazy, didnt port well to new faq system
Even though as it says on your post there's several still missing! I'm looking for them!
Well, I'm glad I can be useful...OP, youve been on Bimmerforums for less than a month, and this is how you start out.
Yes also a rare one! Thanks!cirrusblau metalllic
I am getting into the various shades of violet. Great thread!!! If I ever build an E34 from scratch which may be a good idea, I plan on creating my own color.
I think I saw an Individual 540 the other day... It was BEAUTIFUL. It looked like that Cashmere color...
my E34 525's paint code is 259 Brokat Rot Perlco......is it Individual ??Never saw much E34 with this color

mine is straight schwartz....
Nice work. I didn't realize there were so many colors offered. It seems like you only see a couple on the forums or the road.
I must say that you are missing the best red of all. Cinnabar. My car is a decent example, although its in several different shades based on when it was painted. If you do a search of my postings I'm sure you'll find lots of photos.
CirrusBlau was a standard US color is Bronzit.
