    E36 seat removal

I need to take the leather back and bottom off the seat frame. I also need to remove the rear seat back. It looks as if the front bottom is held in with 4 plastic push pins, but it is hard to tell if that is all. I have tried to search for a howto but no luck. Any info would be great!

    Front seats: 4 16mm bolts.

Rear bench just pulls out. So does the rear backrest. Just make sure you remove the rear headrests first.

Slightly different but anyone removed the leather covering from the front seat base (need to change an airbag seat occupancy sensor)? How hard is it - is it clipped on or glued??

Asked this last week in a topic that has pics now (new leather topic).

    It's not glued but hooked.

Lots has been written about this in the convertible forum. A quick search will give at least half a dozen threads on people's tips and tricks for removing the head rests.

Maybe there should be something about that in the sticky if there isn't already.

    Pull. I mean PUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

LOL. They are known to be very, very tight. Make sure you have the top open, because once they free, you will fly up a meter or 2.

Just wiggle it and use massive force.

Other (non vert) rear headrests are held in place by clips at (one?) metal strut. You need to remove these clips before they can be pulled out.

    Need Help

In my 97 318ti I am taking out the back seats. I have removed the bottom and unbolted the seat belts. When I fold the back part of the seats down there is the hooks, but it is covered with a piece of plastic. There is a special kind of screw. Does anyone know what kinda of tool I need to get to undo the screw and then how to go from there

The front bottom is held in with 4 push things nicknamed 'xmas trees'. get new ones from dealer for like 80 cents ea, you will break em. I did.

If your seat is like mine, there are 4 torx bolts holding on the seat back.

You pop the bottom piece off, then under a flap attached to the top leather you will see two tork. Then when you take the headrest off (pull hard) under that plastic piece there are two more torx.

Heres a pic of how mine looked with the top leather out too...

oh, btw the vinyl on the back of the seat is really glued onto the shell well. I just painted mine.
