Well last week I went to a local car/swap meet in NY and came across a vendor that was selling very old back issues of motor trend, car & driver ect...I came across this May 1995 issue of motor trend comparing the 540i 6 speed, Volvo 850 T-5R wagon, Jag XJR, and the MB C36 AMG. Check it out and enjoy...sorry i dont have a scanner but i think you guys can still appriciate the pics as you can make the words out... I would have uploaded the entire article but i just put the bmw stuff up. One of the funny lines in the story talks about how the e34 pulls so strong and dies at the 128mph limit and all the others that were trailing blows past at 150mph+..Why did they ever govern this damn thing lol

Cool find!
As I stated before, communicate well and often, especially when the news is not going to be pleasant.
I would love to read that article! I still have one of the original car reviews in a mag for the 95 M3, which was really neat when I owned one.
man that's badass. crazy how cars have changed. 'Ferrari's F50 520-hp 60-valve V-12!' just came out.
Sweet!

Proof that the 540i/6 DOES have a different suspension! I've always thought they sat a little lower and it felt better than a stock E34... guess that settles THAT debate!

The fact that the 540 stood up SO well against those cars while being hampered by its all-season tires is remarkable. The all-seasons were also the reason for the governor, most likely.
Note - Didn't read the article, if it says all these things, sorry!

Odd how the 540i has the longest braking distances and the slowest slalom time of all of those. I know that with some proper wheels and tires, it'd be quite a different story - the article doesn't really do it justice.
And they didn't chip it to bring out its actual potential.
wow its wierd to think about these cars new...
Even wierder?
I was born November 4, 1980. In California when I was in high school, you could get your permit at 15 if you took the class. I took it when I was 14, and had the certificate ready. On my 15th birthday (November 4, 1995), I went down the the DMV, got my permit, and started driving.
My 540i/6 is an 11/95 production. It's like it's been waiting for me... all these years.

the 540 with proper tires would have won hands down....
