    New Extreme Duty Clutch Options

I'm need to order a clutch in the next few days. I need something that will hold heavy auto-x and drag racing abuse under a bare minimum of 250 hp/ 250 ft-lbs.

I have a lightened TEP 215mm flywheel, so I'm staying with the 215mm clutch rather than going up to the 228mm. So far it looks like my best options are clutchnet.com's 4 or 6 puc racing clutch for around $400 or TEP's extreme duty clutch for around $350. I want something that will hold enough power for any future upgrades, so figure a max of around 300 ft-lbs of torque.

Any experience with either of these clutches? I know jbob has the 4 puc from clutchnet and likes it.

You could get a Centerforce pressure plate and use the clutchnet disk. I have the same PP with the clutchnet 3 puck solid hub, holding 371ftlbs.

What's the advantage of using the centerforce pressure plate over using one of clutchnets pressure plates? They have 3 stages, stock, heavy duty, and extreme duty. From what I've read about centerforce, I doubt their pp is stronger than the clutchnet red pp.

I had the CFPP already and just swapped to the Clutchnet disc, never used the Clutchnet pp so I cant comment on it.

I have the TEP HD clutch rated for I think was 250/200. Its easy in traffic and is only slightly more harder to push in over stock.

I have also "heard" that the CF clutches are not very good, and shread in a short period of time. Basically the numbers they rate them to are exagerated.

I just ordered the TEP race clutch, its a 215mm sprung hub 4 puc with 25% stiffer pressure plate. The guy there said he used to have that clutch on his 2002 turbo pushing 268 hp at the back wheels for 9 years. I figure that will do for me for now. That and it was almost $100 cheaper than clutchnet's 4 puc clutch. Thanks for the input guys.

Did you think about getting the 228mm clutch? And just get a used flywheel from an 02?

yeah. I have a TEP lightened flywheel that weighs in at 10-11 lbs. The 228mm lightened flywheel weighs in at 15-16 lbs. I don't want to add that weight to my rotating mass.

Plus I'd be out however much it costs to buy a used 2002 flywheel plus another $150 to have it lightened, plus another $20 additional cost for the clutch.

If they say their 215mm clutch will hold 268 hp at the wheels then it will be sufficient for me now. It's not like its going to last me 50,000 miles anyway, if I get 3 years out of the clutch with drag racing, street racing, and autocrossing I'll be happy.

By then I'm sure I'll be due for an overbore, m3 crank, forged JE's, total seals, arp head studs, a ball bearing T28 or better yet a GT28RS (ok, maybe a little big), tubular header, a turbo cam grind, and maybe megasquirt + edis. I'll add the 228 flywheel then. The next time around the goal will be well over 300 hp.
