    TEC3r questions

I have been reading the sin city turbo build by Godfather and saw he has the TEC3r and its the PnP. I went on the SIAS site and saw that they had like a silver one and a purple one $3000 vs. $2000, how do they differ and also when its hooked up can you control the fuel up/down depending on how much boost you want? One more thing, once you hook it up is it transferable from car to car or specifically designed for one car specifically. Thanks
Im interested because it seems like the best tuning options..

    Thanks-

tec3 is purple, tec3r is silver-ish. I didnt know the tec3 is still for sale... in any case. You would do fine with either one. You can control fuel, timing, boost, idle and much more... and its tranferable.

You have a 1992 and there is no need to go to a standalone unless you want 500+whp. My tuning partner in Latvia has a 92 325is and runs around 17psi as a daily driver in the summer. We both use the stock 402 DME on our cars and have no issues at all. It is completely possible to run up to 400whp if not more using the stock DME, assuming you get good chip tuning. We're both running 42lb injectors as well.

Nope, you'd need to most likely get it done through remote tuning with a wideband data logger. Most shops won't be able to tune a stock DME.

    A few BMW's...

    Thumbs up Te3r

I have the tec3r PNP. Its a good set up...soon to even better

I should know by next week end!

Stock DME's are great but the whole remote tuning can get tiresome if you are constatly changing things on your car. Once its tuned you cannot modify it yourself. There are a fair number of guys out there who can tune tec and aem stuff now.

tuning and retuning the stock ECU is possible if you do it yourself. hence things like the forums on and1c.com

    I couldn't get the and1c.com to work?

I'd be curious how compicated the stock ecu is to tune. I know I can tune my Tec3 its pretty easy to play with with some basic Fuel/ ingnition knowledge.

Send a link for the and1c.com...Any info on early cars running Motronic? I have to retune the 535..I just pulled a crap load of crap off it

how program would you need to be able to tune an odb2 ecu? how would you modify it? i understand that with odb1 ecu's you can take the chip and put it on an eeprom burner and use turner pro to tune it.

OBD-II ECU is flash programmable. Actually makes it easier in some ways. Some have had success with KWP2000's and knockoffs thereof. Others use interfaces provided by EVC or dimsport or other all-in-one tuning suites.

You can go to ICS for a custom tune from AA or (maybe) NickG.

how much does it cost for the tools needed to reflash the odb2 ecu?

is kwp2000 the software you use to modify the ecu's map? i have the serial connectors to the diagnostic ports from a snap on modis, could i use that to connect to the ecu? how could i read the ecu and rewrite it, thanks for the info!

If you're interested in getting a remote tune from someone, you'll need a wideband o2 sensor with a datalogger that can log afr/lambda, rpms, tps, MAF voltage and boost if possible. Otherwise you'll have to get a base tune, go to a dyno, get a print out, send it to the tuner, get another tune, etc. IMO, getting a datalogging wideband such one from Zeitronix, Innovate or PLX is the best bet if you found someone who can tune your car well.

You could get the KWP2000+ from ebay for around $250 and read your .bin, but than you'd need to know where the maps are and how to properly modify them. That's the tricky part about OBDII, not to many besides the JC, NickG, AA and MarkD know where they are. It'd probably cost you a couple thousand to get the proper software and definition files.
