Hi! Guys. Over here below are some pics of my aftermarket, 4-sensor, backup warning w/o display unit.
I think this will be useful for some of U.
Control unit
Here's the tricky part, removing of safety gas cap cover lid string.
There’s a detachable hook in the middle of the string.
Push into the middle of the hook w/ a small screwdriver or your finger nail, long one though.
I used the rubber plug over here as wires outlet.
U don't need to remove the vent grill. However, if U want to it would be easier to remove it from
outside, beneath the bumper, rather than trying from the trunk-way.
Otherwise, it will be broken as mine.
Wrapping up w/ plastic tube, I add up w/ 9-pin connector making ease of bumper removal
w/ a single unplugging. In fact, U need only 8 pins, 2X4. Moreover, I add up w/ 2-pin connector on
each sensor making ease of installation and replacement.
In order to put the connector on U need to cut and solder the given cord, as the instruction in this
link: http://vibelights.com/lehowtosoelw.html, w/ bigger wires making possible to strap up
w/ the connector pole.

The provided cords length is enough for putting the control unit in the trunk but it too easy for me
+ it might not fit my project sound sys though. So, I cut and solder w/ the extension wires running
down under the carpet to the dash.
I use the 1983 Mazda 323 speed limit warning chime, Japanese OEM, instead of the given buzzer.
I put the chime and additional relay over here, use the buzzer current as a relay trigger.
I removed the control unit cover, drilled holes on the cover as to insert the ziptie in. In my
control unit cover there is a wire from the main circuit taped with an aluminum foil underneath it,
put 'em right back after drilling the holes.
I decieded to put the unit over the wires union-box. remove the attached relay making ease of
access. use a flat screwdriver push in the middle top of the box to release it out. If I remember it
right? I'm not sure that yours will have enough space like mine.
Reposition the wire holder making proper space for zipties. Zip’em up and put it back on.
Here's the vid when it's working

neat mod and great DIY!
that's the first time I have seen an m5 rep bumper.. it looks pretty nice on the e36!
Great DIY. Thanks
interesting. front & rear bumpers look nice.
did you buy the distance sensor kit online? what is needed to get this working?
why? you cant back up with out hitting shit. if so you shouldn't be driving. I'm getting sick of car manufacturers making it easer for stupid people to drive.
The idea for a backup sensor is to aid people driving big cars with poor visibility. Besides if these can stop just a few kids from getting run-over its well worth it.
On the other hand, I'd kinda rather spend my money else where. Our cars have great visibility while backing up. Nice job on op's part though .
Over here in Bangkok, I rather go to the car accessory shop to touch & feel the real one. However, I believe it almost the same stuff in ebay though.
All you need is ya gut. It will be my pleasure to assist you if you have a little patient. I kinda busy once a while + my internet connection is not that reliable though.
where'd you get that front bumper?!?!?
why do you make such stupid statements?? not only can this save a little kid's life, it can also save many many bumpers in tight spaces (like downtown chicago)
i agree with you how car makers are making cars too comfortable and allowing people to be so relaxed that they will forget they're driving, so they will crash... but the backupsensor is one of my favorite things on a car...
btw, i can park perfectly in tight spaces, so i'm not trying to defend 'stupid' drivers...
anyway, very nice mod OT, and i also like both bumpers

Thats some goood stuff. I bet driving in Thailand gets crazy once and a while so that mod makes sense.
More rear bumper pics please and how much did it cost?

It cost me 6,000.00 THB = 171.87 USD (today rate) finish-paint installed.
Backup sensor excluded.
God! That noise drives me crazy! Not bad DIY though.
