I think I got there just as you were leaving.

It's a nice shop and was impressed with the cars they owned but the guys there didn't seem to know exactly what they were doing. A good example of this was when CMT's TT was dyno'd it was only putting out like 221hp when it should have maybe 240-50 along w/ the loops in the dyno sheet and the guy that did it forgot to turn off the esp several times.

No offense to anyone that works there though.

Also, was I the only one under the impression that there were going to be some exotic cars going on the dyno. A few people told me the dyno was booked for all the exotics for the whole day and only 2 cars went on it in the 3.5hrs I was there.

Oh, so that black cabrio was yours. I came by about 11:30 and saw it there. That WRX looks like great fun. I walked around a bit but the place was mobbed, so I took off after 15 min or so.

Hoog-

Very cool. I just moved here 4 yrs ago (I'm from FL originally), but love it so far. The town council just passed a new plan for Staples; they're going to add a huge new wing and renovate it. Lotsa kids (including mine) are coming up thru the school system over the next decade or so.

Wspt was a great place to grow up.

I wondered if there was a FL connection w/your username. My parents have a place in key largo, also. I've been going down every year for the past 20 yrs.

I am in the process of purchasing a '99 m3 cab also. Just had it checked out at Pace bmw in Mamaroneck yesterday.

You'll love the cabrio as soon as winter's over. I got mine in June from a private seller; it's killing me that I can't put the top down for a whole 4 months.

Key Largo's great; you should visit often. I'm from Gainesville (went to UF, hence GatorM) but lived in Miami after I graduated. Good times, good times..

Gator - How did you work the transaction with the private seller?

My seller has a lien on the vehicle (which will be the full purchase price). I get two different stories from the two institutions that I have been approved by. I am trying to minimize any risk in the transaction.

Option 1: My credit union sends me a check made out to myself, the owner and BMWFS for the entire amount (some $$ will be financed, the rest will be from my crdt union acct.) I endorse, owner endorses (I pick up vehicle, signed title and bill of sale), he sends to BMWFS who sends either myself or my credit union the lien release. I 'should' be able to register the vehicle even with the bmwfs lien still on it. (I called my DMV).

Option 2: The other institution wants me to send them a bank check for the amt not being financed, they will then send a check to BMWFS directly. When BMWFS receives the check the owner will give me car, title and bill of sale. This institution has a 1% lower interest rate.

I am not sure I like option 2, I would feel more comfortable giving the owner the check and picking up the vehicle at the same time.

Note that I called BMWFS and they want me to do option 2.

Any thoughts?

Mine went down like this:

1) I arrange for her to bring the car to my house; I go get two cashiers' checks made out (on my home equity line, so no lien on my side), one to her bank for the rest of the lien and one to her for the remainder.

2) She brings the car to my house, signs the CT DMV Bill of Sale, I give her the checks, she gives me the registration, etc and leaves her NC plates on it. She mails the check to her bank. From this point to step 3 (about a month), I'm driving it on her registration but my insurance.

3) Bank gets the check and clears it, sends her the Title. She signs the Title and FedExs it to me. I register the vehicle in CT.

It's a bit different than your number one, but it worked out fine for me.

Wow - nice of her to leave you the plates!

I am going to go with option 1.

Yeah, she was very helpful, probably because I overpaid her. I actually drove up to Montreal on her plates and registration. I had to talk my way back into the US....good thing I brought the Bill of Sale.

OK - this is becoming frustrating.

I received the check on Fri. It is bank check but not certified or registered.

The owner wants to give me bill of sale + signed title when I give him check. He will fedex check to bmwfs. Once they receive check (and I assume waiting until it clears) & tell him his loan commitment has been satisfied, he will deliver vehicle to me.

I'm not 100% comfortable with this. I am used to picking up the vehicle when I give check. Again I feel that owner is trustfull. - He did pay off the difference between what he owed and the purchase price once we agreed on sale.
