In dash dvd player question

I'm thinking of picking up an in dash dvd/cd player as a christmas present for myself. What do you guys think of this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Afd2vmz...0&I=110VM9311T . I just wanted to see if anybody has had any experience with it or if anybody could direct me to a good one for a good price. I'm thinking right around the $500 mark.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: Also, I'm looking at this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Afd2vmz...50&I=070VD8181

For that price,.. all you can get is a Jensen.
Personally I would not desicrate a BMW with a Jensen.
My two cents.
I did see a deal on a Clarion from crutchfield for about $100 bucks more...

Can you possibly give me some names of ones you would recommend? Everyone keeps saying to go to Best Buy but I've checked their website and haven't found much. Any more help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Id rather have a 1 or two year old name brand unit for the same $$, than a cheap un repairable new unit that has a warranty, but which you KNOW is not going to last.

Then consider that you are going to want to add a CD changer (which is almost mandatory with a video head) sat radio, nav, or other options later down the road, and those options are not available for those two cheap heads.

Well if the hu plays mp3's, then he wont need a cd changer.

I have sold a few of the Jensen flip out screens and about 75% of them have come back with problems, I say stick with the names people know and trust: Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse, Kenwood, Nakamichi, Clarion to name a few. I personally push alot of Pioneer, Alpine and Kenwood at the shop I run now. At my old shop I did alot of Eclipse, Clarion and Sony. You get what you pay for. If you shop your hometown audio store I would expect to pay $1,000-1500 for a nice touch screen with everything but nav. For units with nav I have seen them go for $1600 and up retail installed with full warranty etc. Hope this helps!

Well, if Chevy Aveos can use gasoline to get you from point A to point B, you don't need a BMW then.

First time you start changing out discs on a flip out unit in traffic, you are going to want a changer.

I won't need a changer b/c I have an ipod hookup with my existing headunit. The only thing I have on cd's is dvd's and I highly doubt I'll be changing those out in traffic b/c I'm not going to be watching dvd's while driving. I'll leave those things to my passenger.

What is the best major brand flip out screen head unit for the price? Obviously besides the 2 I've previously listed.

If you listen to Ipod in the car, and have DVDs downconverted to SVCD then you obviously aren't looking for the best possible sound or picture quality. So maybe the jensen is right for you after all.

the dual is excellant for the price. So far ive had no problems and I like the display better than all the others ive seen

dual has put some shitty products out in the past but this HU far suprassed my expectations. I got it for less than $500 shipped on ebay

I understand the issue of price but I've heard guys say that they are great for the money and others say they're crap. I'm getting mixed reviews and everybody who says they're crap aren't showing what is better. I'm open to spending more money but if I can get a good picture quality and decent sound for far less then why not, that is the question I am asking.

So, if the Dual is complete crap (I've ruled out the Jensen) then show me something that is superior for a little more. Thanks again for the help.

I always had 12 disc changer in my Accord...
But if you get an hu that plays dvd's and mp3's, you can have about 100 songs per cd, more if you put them on a dvdr. That for me is enough.

This should be mentioned,...out of all my car/audio mags,..whenever installers did major installs, Jensen was absolutely never involved. Unless it was a Jensen sponsored install. There has to be a reason why the pros wont choose it. Even if you're on a budget, it's not worth it.

A clearance or one or two year old
Eclipse, Clarion, Alpine, Panasonic, Kenwood, even Blaupunkt.

I've seen these and they aren't bad at all... pretty good little heads.
