8 Series (E31) (1991 - 1997) As the last E24 rolled off the production line in 1989, its replacement was quick on its heels to fulfill the fantasies of those looking for a touring coupe with all of the luxury, performance, and prestige of a BMW, only now with both 8 and 12 cylinder engines.

Arrow let's see some 8 series interior pics

ive seen 8 series interior pics before, but not many and besides i've never sat in one. are they more comfortable than a 928gts? i've sat in one of those before, and they are cool, but what about the 8 series. someone post pics of 8 series interiors, the 8 series people need to represent.

i'd really like to drive a 8 series with a manual. it'd be cool to own one, but i would really hate lifting up my seat to let people ride in the back, i hate it when people want to ride in the small ass backseat instead of driving their own cars. i already have to bus people around enough in my is, i would certainly not wanna screw up an 8.

I tested out an 840i automatic and while it was an amusing ride after driving my 328i I felt like the 8 was driving me rather than the other way around. It is a real nice highway cruiser, but it is big and it feels big when you are on the road and taking turns. Definitely a nice touring car, but not that sporty. Fast when up to speed, but not much off the line.

The rear seat is just there for show to keep the car from being a two seater with the associated rise in insurance costs. Otherwise I'd call it a back shelf more than a seat. The front area is of course super nice and comfortable.

Thumbs up the 840...

The 840 is quite a capable beast, once you sort out several things. I have a 3.64:1 LSD instead of the stock 2.81:1 non-ls diff,
and it makes a world of difference -- such that I can hand any 328 it's ass. (Not the 330, however, as have one standing in my driveway and I've tried many times )
Still, one does not buy a 4200 lb car to run 0-60.
The original diff was tall so that you can cruise all day at 155, but it doesn't make much sense in California.

The car handles GREAT, even compared to the 330ci, once you get used to it. I can push well over 90 on most highway entrances with curves, and I can double the speeds posted on highway exit ramps. There is almost no body roll with the stock suspension!

I'm installing a set of Bilsteins and H&R's, along with dinan (garbage) sway bars, and K-mac front adjustable negative camber plates. Already have the Dinan chips.

sounds like a really nice ride, is it your everyday car? what color is your 840ci, and how reliable has it been?

It is my everyday ride, with 110k miles. It is Black/Black.

Reliability? Much better than I thought.
2 things broke so far:
(1) ignition section (common on 8's and 7's)
$700 parts/labor
(2) radiator leak
$1200 parts/labor

30k of the miles are mine, everything is running fine. My control arm bushings are worn out, and I'm replacing them soon.

Maintainance on this car compared to a Honda Civic is of course HUGE, but compared to any other bimmer, it is about the same.

Honestly, the only thing I would trade my 840 for is an 850CSi or that SU-37 in the video under Off Topic.

Of course, the famous death of the pixels issue affected my OBC, but I don't really give a shit about the "outside temp" or whatever the hell the OBC is for. (Have been driving the past 15k miles without it...)

Will post pics in the Rides section in the next few days after I wash it

Is your 330Ci auto or manual? Just want to know how your 840Ci compares in acceleration.

Yeah we should it's one of my favorite Bimmers of all time.

Here are some more 8 series pics:

(That could be where the expression "ass ugly" comes from)

(Note in dash LCD screen and custom steering wheel)

(Note spoiler integrated into trunklid. )

I got all those pics off this guys Car Domain page. (He owns that first black one.)

Talking Hey! I resemble that remark!

I can't see the pics that Tom got from my Car Domain site, but I hope his "Butt Ugly" comment was not for my car... at least not all of it.

My brother had a Euro 928 and it was very nice.. The ride is different in my opinion to my 850Ci.. The 850 seems abit smoother.. maybe the 850 is heavier.. not sure..

Here are some of my interior pics..
