Hey,

Just been lookin around for diff. subs and amp combo. Anyone in the tri-state area have anythign that'ld they'ld recommend. Better yet...anyone willing to show it to me?? I' wouldn't mind the drive as long as it wasn't too far away.

I had two JLaudio 10W6's in a sealed box each chamber was .66'

they were powered by a Rockford Fosgate 800a2 in stereo (too much power for those subs otherwise) with a Tsunami gel battery and a Lightining Audio 1.0 Farad Cap.

The sound was intense and super tight for the various music I listen to.

they are now in my Tahoe (less the cap and battery) and sound even louder due to the open air of the truck.

Nice setup, around $8-1200 at the time installed, not sure what they go for now.

I have a pretty unique setup designed specifically for the e36 ic.

Sony ES HU-pre all the Xplod BS
1 kicker comp vr 10 in a sealed box, ported through the rear armrest (no rattles)
25x1 jl audio monoblock amp for the sub
focal polyglass front component set, stock rears with crossovers
infinity kappa 50x4 for the interior speakers

other custom work:
1)custom trunk (nothing spectacular, just built to cover the box and amps, reinforce the cd changer) finished in black carpet

2) a switch controlling a splitter for the CD changer line. Depending on the position of the switch, the cd changer will play, or my Ipod mp3 player will play (connected to the splitter via a 1/4 inch to two RCA plug y adapter. Unfortunately the mount is not done yet so it looks a little ghetto, but it plays very well and it gives me 5gb of mp3s in addition to the 11 CD capability of the HU and changer.

It's not an incredibly loud system, its clear and deep and it has a nice bump to it, even with the top down (a priority). I can also still keep my spare and get it out if necessary. The convertible is tricky, due to size restrictions in the trunk and there is no rear deck to port through. It's not going to win any sound competitions, but it is perfect for my purposes.

You can come see it if you want, but theres not much to see, its pretty much all hidden. If you want to hear it, Im in Manhattan. I can also give you the contact info for the shop that did the work. They are pricey, but they do excellent work. They specialize in these types of boxes. sub: (1) 10" round Kicker (made by Stillwater Designs) solobaric sub. Quality, design, materials & craftsmanship is excellent.

Has an awesome punch to it... very unique and definitely worth the money. Round Solo's are very, very hard to find anymore. You can find them on eBay. When they surface, expect to pay close to $150+ for one, and if it's new in the box, the more $$$$. The Solo design is similar to having 2 10" subs... but it's only a single 10" sub...

The new Solo's are square (really, a square speaker...ugly too).

The box required for my sub is extremely small - I think it was a total of 1 cubic foot, no port required. So due to it's small box size, it does not really compromise trunk space at all.

It hits pretty hard and sounds great no matter what type of music is playing.
