e46 steering wheel fits in e36?

The big bulky steering wheel on my e36 has been getting to me. I am seriously considering a change in style, but want to keep the steering wheel BMW but with a bit more style. Any of you guys know if an e46 steering wheel is interchangeable to my e36 M3?

    Any input is appreciated!

Airbags are a 2 wire connection, very easy to connect and make work.

Did you get the radio controls to work too?

Also, another option is the euro E36 steering wheel. You can find them on UK eBay pretty easy. But overseas shipping is pricey.

Curious about this also, and whether you relocated cruise control to the steering wheel and deleted the stalk...

Is there a cover for the wheel without buttons? That looks damn good, I have the same e46 shiftknob and love it.

I doubt anyone makes a cover without the buttons, but i know the lower cover is removable.. the top might be too. If so one could shave and repaint the covers and have them buttonless.

Yeah I know the lower part is removable, you can get wood, aluminum ect for them, but I wasn't sure about the top.

it had to go together somehow...lol...buttonless would be sweet on that wheel but it seems that the wheel is just a wee bit too thick for that car...or the dash...who knows!

You can always get the 3-spoke steering wheel that came with late 98 and 99 M3s.

I thought the e46 was a 2 stage airbag system and the e36 1 stage.

IMHO, the three spoke in the Euro E36's is much better looking than the three spoke US version.

Didn't know that. I wonder if the electronics are the same as the Euro E36 ones... I do know that there are quite a few DIY articles/threads out there on installing a euro E36 steering wheel on a US E36

For E36 steering wheels, I like the looks of the Euro one. But I suppose that a matter of personal taste.

Not sure what you mean about volume controls. As far as I can tell none of the E36 steering wheels have that. Or are you refering to a E46 steering wheel fitted to a E36?
