After going back and forth on buying a vert, i ended up buying a 89 325ia as the base of my project. Hopefully this e30 will see completion unlike the other 3 i've owned that were sold before i completed them. The car is not much to look at currently, needs some work, but the price was right. The car needs a trans,(which i don't mind since i'm converting to 5 speed anyway) and it has minor damage to the rt.front fender and bumper. No unibody or frame damage. I pulled the bumper off to get a good look at it, and it looks like i just need a rt. fender, bumper reinforcement, and cover. The motor runs and idle's well. The car has been repainted a pearl white, but the original color was white, so not that hard to restore back to original. The interior is fair, but will need some parts to make it excellent. The previous owner shaved the mouldings, and trunk emblem. The trunk is easy enough to replace. As for the mouldings, they did a pretty good job of it and i will probably leave them shaved, for when i do my sacriligious m3 fender panels. Here are a few pics of my new POS, but hey it's a starting point and i only paid $300 for it clean title.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Not bad at all for $300. Nice base to start a project from. Have fun![]()
Thanks! I was curious about seats on the E-30's. Some of the verts came with leather Recaro's? I looked at some of the "is" sport seats and they look the same as the supposed Recaros. How can you tell the difference?
"It's better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you are not!"
IS stock seats are the same as sport recardos as far as i know...the e30 M3 seats are a little different and ive seen some verts with those seats.
In IS seats the stitching went vertical and on the m3 seats the stitching was horizontal.
WTB: fog lights, rear apron, perhaps some euro bumpers?
Whoever shaved the side moldings did a horrendous job. All that bondo needs to be chipped out.

Question about shaving the moldings. They are held in by clips right? So if I pull them I would have to fill in the holes?
more then holes... a deep channel.

I bought a used fender for $75 to replace the damaged one, i took off the moulding and there isn't much of a difference in the depth of the chanel. It looks as if they just filled the holes and smoothed it a bit. Why does it look like a horrendous job? In the pic it's hard to tell the quality because the reflection of the sun on the pearl paint throws you off. If you look at it length wise ( front to back ), it looks nice and straight. I'm not too worried about it eighther way as i'm doing box flares with dzues fastners on it eventually anyway. Today i removed a lot of interior crap, like the 2 old alarms, replaced the broken glove box with a used one, replaced the driver knee panel, and replaced missing fastners on the interior panels. It's up on the lift and tomorrow i'm dropping the auto trans, and should have the 5 speed up and running by Fri. I found my old set of basketweaves, that came off my old 318is, and will probably put some tires on them and put them on the car aswell. I was thinking about going 205, but not sure of the series. Maybe 60 / 14's. What do you all think i should run as far as series? Also was it supposed to have elipsoid lights that year? I have a set of leather Recaro's that came out of a friends vert, that need to be re-upholstered. I'll probably install those for now also. The muffler is plugged so i'll probably replace it with something i have laying around off one of my other BMW's. I'm going to see how much of the repairs i can do with parts i already have. Here's a pic of what the trunk looks like with the emblem shaved....

I looked at the seats i got from my friend, and the stiching goes horizontal not vertical. Any ideas as to what they are. They came from a 89 vert, E30 M3 seats? Yeah i'm not feeling the trunk to much, who knows it might grow on me, or i might just replace it. Also my trans says getrag on it. Did all the us 5spds say that, or only the euro ones. I thought i read somewhere that the getrag's were euro only. I could be wrong, let me know.

that paint job really looks like shit. i really cant see anything bad about the mouldings
Yeah, the paint job looks like originally it was done correctly, but someone tried to freshen it up and turned it to dog shit! I'm not much of a fan of pearl paint. I will eventually repaint it back to the original Alpineweib color.

ya it doesnt have to many ripples in it so it does look like it was done correctly to start with but that paint has def had a hard life
I paid 300 for mine too but it looks like this, needs another rear bumper

Today we're working on swapping out the auto trans, and start installing the 5spd. I ran into some minor detail setbacks, i need to order the 5spd flywheel bolts and clutch pressure plate bolts, before i can bolt up the 5spd. Also not sure if the rear trans mount is diff. between the auto and 5 spd, i moght have to order that also. For right now i'm going to primer a straight front fender and remount the old bumper cover and drive it, later i'll worry about the body. I noticed the tag on my auto rear diff. says 4:10, thats gonna be fun to drive! I wonder what gas mileage will be like? Looks like you got a good deal assuming yours drives. Mine ran, but only drove in reverse.
"It's better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you are not!"
Think of all the reverse fun lol mine ran ok i needed to replace my drive shaft bushing and give it a tune up besides that it runs fine, well except its running way to rich right now.
Mine idled a little funny, but then i realized that the muffler is shot and plugged. Looks like they recently replaced the cat, which is a good thing considering i'm in Ca. and i'll have to smog it. The muffler is fairly cheap to replace so i'm not to worried about it. I'll have some pics up later today on what we got done.

Nice project car. However, wtf is pearl paint? It doesn't belong on a BMW; it is not one of BMW's colors. Whoever did that has horrible taste or is color-blind. But nice score anyway.

Here are some of the before removal shots of the auto trans and the 5spd change over parts. I'll take pics of the clutch tomorrow when i pick it up.

Today we got the auto completely out, changed the pedal assembly, and replaced the rear main seal. Here is a pic. of the CCR Fabrication clutch, t.o. bearing, pilot bearing, and new factory hardware. Also in the interior pic showing the 5spd pedal assembly installed is a pic of a steering wheel i had left over from one of my other E30's, that I installed. I think it looks better than what was in there before.
