Max rpm for non-vanos m50 valvetrain?

I was wondering what rpm the non-vanos M50 valvetrain is good for. I realize stock hydraulic lifters begin to collapse over a certain rpm as well.

Probably somewhere around 7300 or so. 7250 is a safe redline.

Thanks for the educated guess. I hope to be turning more than that.

The S52 head/valvetrain is good for 7k+. By the looks of the M50's double valve springs I was figuring this head was good for even more rpm. I need to find the seat pressure of the M50NV springs vs the S52.

Ulysses, where is this info from? Stock dual springs? Stock m50 non-vanos cams?

well I money shifted mine on the weekend.. no bent valves.. but a few of the lifters are gone. And I probably hit around 7900-8000 rpm.

I'd guess up to 8,000 rpms. Damn lucky m50 non-vanos owners.

From the looks of your car list you have a M50 Vanos, which has different valve springs.

Mike, when you find out, that would definately help my case. With all my studies though, The safe RPM I have been told by a few is 7250.

I know the fellas @ EDGE motorworks in CA pushed their N-VANOS Auto-x car to 7500 on a regular basis.

from what i have read (although i do intend to experience it some day) is that the non-vanos can hold safely to around 8k in stock form. i've read it in a couple different places too, but i cant remember where. again, i dont know this as being a fact though, or even how long it would hold up going that high.

So Mike, does this mean you are shooting for higher RPM? If so, that will make me even happier to see your end results

What about lifters? Would we be forced into using solid lifters?

whats wrong with soild valvetrain hey - works just fine on the M10 :P

when you pull up next to something with a set of solid rockers/lifters, you know there is something going on

The only downside to solid lifters is the adjustment, right? (I'm very very new to engine building parts, so please go easy on me here!)

So I can rev my 92 non vanos m50 to 8000rpms with NO modifications to the head? Is this still safe with boost? Thanks.
