ok so did a lot of thinkning and plannnig tonight. and came to the conclusion that i need to rebuild the motor now anyways. with a 147K on the engine its probably tired anyways.
so ive planned out:
CP pistons 8:5:1 compression
Cometic .70 headgasket
ARP Head studs
ARP Rod bolts
New bearings
new bottom lower gasket set
for the head:
new valve springs
retainers
keepers
have the head shaved for smoothness
have the block decked, bored and honed
after all said and done should have nice tight and new motor ready for new life.
at this point dont really care of the current state of the motor wheather its Rings, pistons, ring lands, or headgasket its all coming out for the new stuff anyways.
looking to finish this in the next 2 - 3 weeks.
many thanks to Charles AKA bassmaster for keeping me motivated and not giving up and for all his help.
care wil be back better than ever

your gonna keep the stock rods?
do you even know what a plethora is?
now how did i know that was the first question someone was going to ask.Originally Posted by ///M3 CRAZY
answer = yes
i beleive as well as others who have advised me stock rods will be fine. lotts S50's out there making good power on stock rods.
Join the club. I was wondering if VAC or another vendor sells a head component kit, including springs, keepers and retainers? Do you know of anything like that?
Steve
That sounds, well, expensive.
I'd at least do a leakdown test before jumping headfirst into a full on rebuild. But if you don want to rebuild one, I have a 'some assembly required' longblock for sale that will suite your needs if you want to minimize downtime.
SOLD -A dozen ///M3s of all shapes
lol yea sounds expensive but in the long run it will be worth it.Originally Posted by fritzintn
even if its just a headgasket id still like to go ahea and do all this at once for peace of mind and be able to run 20 psi and good tuning with no worries.
down time should only be about 2-3 weeks im not too wirried about that though as long as its done right.
i dont see a head component kit on their site but i see all the pieces you need its not really that expensive though for what you are getting.Originally Posted by slcook54
what are you doing to your motor while its under the knife?
Says the guy with 4 M3s, haha.Originally Posted by fritzintn

Depending on if the head is cracked or not, I might have to get a fresh one. Either way, same stuff as you pretty much, new springs, retainers, keepers and having it milled. Plus an MLS gasket and ARP studs.Originally Posted by CosmoE36

Haha, not with this car, I'm done. Maybe with a project 2.8 in the future though , after looking at the springs I actually might skip on those depending on what others say. I think keepers, retainers and new valve guides should suffice.
Steve
Cosmoe36: Why are you rebuilding exactly? Is the car not running well?
EDIT: Nevermind, read your other thread just now.

time for change i suppose.
i was going to sell the turbo kit and part the parts on the car out and sell the car with the motor as is for significantly reduced price but after thinking things through i might as well just keep on going.
UPDATE
