1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

You know you have an E36 if your car was built from '92 to '98. Hehe.

...When your set of OE BMW wheels costs more than your first car ever did....

....When your friends wanna hang out with you more often just to be seen next to your car.....

....When you drive down to the corner store to grab some milk even though its one street away....and forget the milk on purpose only to go back out again....

. . . dealerships treat you like you drive a Ford Pinto.

. . . you can bend your rims by running over a leaf that has blown onto the street.

. . . you spend time making up excuses to "run to the store."

.... when you park your baby (as you love to call "her", which hot girls think is absolutely adorable) next to your window so you can look at her every few seconds and admire her freshly-washed and waxed, gleaming, fantastically delicious lines.

And her incredibly-expensive-but-so-worth-it 17s on their 235/40s with cool lookin' tread.

And how amazing those 17s look partly hidden beneath her fenders, now that she's been slammed.

And how wonderful her Dove Grey interior looks after all those miles.

And how it makes you want to run outside and start her quickly, just so you can hear her roar --- then blip the throttle to hear her scream.

And how she makes the hands on the clock over your desk move slowly, because you're aching to be locked into her seat, hands on 10 and 2, hammer to the floor, knifing through the gears, an ear to the singing revs of that straight six, flying effortlessly through the twisties....

... you know you drive an E36 when you're in love with your car.

Thank you, BMW.

... when your friends won't dare to ask to drive your car, coz they know how you baby it

... when the one friend that -does- drive your car yanks the shift knob off with an enthused 1-2 shift, and your heart stops.

... when you sit in near-silence and ultimate dread in the passenger seat, gripping the door handle for solace, as your hair turns grey and falls out, while that friend is obviously enjoying bouncing the needle off the rev limiter.

... when you sigh with relief as you get back in your driver's seat, and silently swear that no one other than yourself will -ever- drive your beloved car again.
