Cool Fixed CEL codes P1189 & P1188!! (pics)

So after pulling the OBDII error codes I finally found out the problem--a busted intake hose.

    P1189: Pump Speed Signal Fault
    P1188: Calibration Memory Fault

jk, I didn't really fix it that way. I bought a new hose from the stealer for $40.

Hmmm, now I replaced the intake hose and the check engine light is still on. Even after having the battery unplugged all night. Is there a way to clear the code? Thanks.

did you get your code cleared? I have the same code and actually my boot looks the same, waiting for the boot to come in. you can get your code reset at autozone. let me know if the boot fixed it

Yeah, the new boot fixed it. I bought a OBDII reader that cleared the codes for me.

It's the elbow connecting the MAF to the throttle boddy.

My car had the exact same issue, same codes, same solution to fix. how many miles are on your car? Mines got 86k. I had a thread up a few days ago w/ a pic of how bad my hose was.

Leaky intake boot will also throw up codes for pre-cat O2 sensors out of range, mixture adjustment out of range, airflow meter, etc, etc, etc. Amazing what a little unmetered air will do...

lol that's exactly how I "fixed" mine. But I used super glue first and then used the duct tape to cover the rip. Better get my replacement soon.

(I'm lazy) It's marked on the hose itself. That's what I used.

is their a possibility of getting this code because of bad gas?
well the autozone guy told me to put some good gas in it and see what happens because the place where i filled up @ had questionable gas and it was my first time going there.

It seems they always say that.

What they won't do (at least in MD) is clear the code for you so you can test their theory. Why not get the codes cleared somehow and duct tape the hole closed before you plunk down $40. That is, if you have a leaky hose.

Thanks for this post. +1 on the cracked hose. I went out and looked and found duct tape on there from the previous owner where he covered up a crack.

ordered a new part from Pelican. Thanks again. Hopefully the 1188 and 1189 will go away!

Sorry to bring back a dead thread but trayson I'm just wondering if the new hose you ordered fixed your P1188, P1189 and CEL? I'm experiencing the same 2 codes and will be checking the intake in the morning. I'm supposed to pass emissions by Friday so I've gotta get this figured out asap! Thanks

Yeah, I remember replacing that part and IIRC, that put me back in business. I don't have that 328i vert anymore, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was. Man, the issues I've dealt with that I don't even remember!

    Intake hose

GUYS! im kinda new to this site..The scanner originally gave me code P1188, so I looked around for any leaks and found a hole in the intake hose in so i used duct tape to stop the leak while I wait for the new one to come in but i am still having the same problem. Any other suggestions on things i can do before taking it to the mechanic???? plss
