Kind of on a whim two of my friends and I decided to make a fiberglass box. We started last night around 9:30 pm then worked a little bit today. Hopefully well be basically done tonight tonight.
The car
This is where the box is going.
For now, im going to have an 11 Kv.2 but will eventually upgrade to an 11Ov.2
In case you haven't seen one before
We did the mold last night, without thinking about the camera.
Adding some glass to strengthen it.
The mold, basically done.
Ring placement.
Fleece on.
Resin being applied
And thats where we're at now. Comments welcome.
i dunno abt the covering... but looks really nice i prolly woulda stuck with black.
I really like that spot for a sub. but yea, what's with the pianos?
ps- you still have the E36??
Come on guys, pianos are the new alcantra. I think I'm going to get the whole interior recovered.
The E36 is my brothers now.
Damn... estoril looks so good on a coupe. The box should be sweet too. What is your sealed volume going to be?
Haven't measured it yet, but all I need is .5ft^3Originally Posted by Vinci
Alright a little bit more progress. Next step is to add a few layers of fiberglass to the front, then bondo time.

Undecided, I'm not even sure if I'm going to bother hooking the Kv2 up, I might just wait until I get the Ov.2. Building this box was really an impulsive thing to do. I had most of the materials laying around so it didn't cost me much.Originally Posted by ken_vs_ryu

Wow that looks really clean and nice...
No more BMW....
Hey Dom.. I was wondering when you were gonna do a custom box for your car. After seeing that huge 4 sub box you were making for that truck, I knew the sad example of a stock sub would get to you. I can only imagine how loud a 10" sub can be in such a small car.... I'm jealous.
Anyways, I can't say forsure, but I think the piano blanket is just being used as a fabric to glass over. The other box they were working on had the blanket backwards and I think it was already painted black.. But I guess to each his/her own... =)
TTYL and I wouldn't mind checking it out...

I thought this was a cool shot of the workshop ie garage
Test fit of the box after some rough bondo.
And now were done.
I just wanted to add that the carpet match is MUCH better in person. The reflective properties are different though so the flash throws it off.
nice job...that really is a great spot for a sub...Id be scared that a 10 would blow the windows out!

arent you afraid itll sound like crap, because you couldnt really verify that you had .5 ft^3?
is the box enough volume for that sub?
Good job and effort. After I took out the compressor and then see all the room in there I was hoping to find a stealth enclosure somewhere on the net, especially when I looked over to see my 10" sub sitting in a ugly square box in the opposite corner of my hatch floor. Nothing available as far as I know though. Can't wait till you hook it up and let me know how it sounds. I'm 30 now so I don't care for insane bass but I still really enjoy that hit of tight bass when you want to crank up the music once in awhile.
If that sounds good then I've got a buddy that used to make enclosures for a shop and this would be cake for him I think. I'd like to learn some fiberglassing eventually too of course. How hard is that to pulll out to access the floor panel? How do you secure it in there so it doesn't vibrate or shake around in the space?

That looks really really good!!! In my eight month quest for an M Coupe, I test drove one that had an 8" square sub in that exact location, it sounded really nice. So I'm sure yours will sound good too.
Care to make me one.
