The new 9011 (HIR1) and 9012 (HIR2) bulbs put out a nice amount of light as I've read. The 9012 bulbs put out around 2500 lumens which is around the HID territory.
Some cars already come with this bulbs from the factory, like the Viper and the I30.
What do you think?

They won't work in 9006 adapter, would they?Originally Posted by Daved
So you have HID quality lumens and no ballast?
If this will plug and play into a set of ellipsoids, I'm all IN.
Interesting...how do you modify these to 9006? Anyone have any real world experiences?
Bimmerforums member deilenberger wrote about these and other bulbs in the June Roundel. I don't remember all of the details of his article, but I believe he modified the bulb bases to fit his E36 headlights.

I thought HIDs were in the 3400K and up range. These HIRs look neat and all, but lets get some real results out of them. Someone buy a set and let the testing begin.

Yes. Obviously their life expectancy is not as good as HIDs but I still think the cost/benefit is very good (plus you don't have to deal with ballasts, that's what I hate about HIDs).Originally Posted by XR7Gto328iS
They won't be plug and play into ellipsoids as they're different. You'll have to modify them as G. P. Burdell mentioned but it's doable. If I could get a set of these bulbs here, I would have already modded them.Originally Posted by XR7Gto328iS
PM me your address and an online location on where to buy these and I will get them for you.Originally Posted by Daved

Hmmm. So by the chart it shows that the 2500 lumen ones are running 73 watts at 13.2 volts. Don't we only have 12 volt cars? And isn't 73 watts a bit high for stock wiring? Running at 12 volt, 60 watt, they have roughly the same lumen output as Silverstar 9005's. Doesn't sound that spectacular to me. HIDs are cheap, $300 and you have bulbs that last for years and years.

interesting technology but i'll stick to my 35 watt 3200 lumen HIDs
And I'll stick to my 6000K HIDs...Originally Posted by wushucivic

The K is the Kelvin rating which gives you color. Lumen is brightness. 4300K is what BMW and others use for factory headlights. 6000K has some blue, 12000K is deep purple. Factory halogens are about 800 lumens (or the brightness of 800 candles) whereas HID's can be up to 3000 lumens.
