    Dyno day results?

Okay, who laid down the big numbers at today's BMWCCA Hawaii Chapter Dyno Fest?...

I believe the winner was a 2800 cs that put down a hair under 300whp.

Haha...yup that was one loud 2800 cs!!!!

First of all, thanks to Reid and Hypersports for the facility and for all the hard work. I think Reid was quite ready to go home for the day when I left at 5:00.

I'll let everyone post their own #s, including Astroboy who is now known as "dyno-killer"

My S54 Coupe was the first car to get a reading this morning and was very consistent, putting down a best third run of 258.22HP and 226.31ft/lbs of torque. Initailly I was quite disappointed with these figures, but as the day progressed my figure became the one to beat. A very maxed out E46 M3 with about $5K in Dinan goodies was unable to match my stock S54 motor. but to keep things in perspective, Reid's own "all motor" S52 E36 M3 had a best of 288 to the wheels, and a 350 Twin turbo conversion at the shop is purported to dyno nearly 450hp !!

I don't want to post my numbers here so I don't embarrass everyone

I got more the second try than the first, so that is all that matters to me.

    Herre's some pics.

Pat - You missed it when Astro killed the dyno. After his 3 smoking runs, the dyno was down for about 1 hour. Astro is now known as "Dyno Killer". Man that E34 is something else as it killed the dyno and it can handle up to 1000 hp!

Casper, aka LO FLYN, got off to a slow start but after the advil kicked in managed 212 RWHP and 202 FtLbs. I checked the compression a couple of days ago because I didn't want Casper to die needlessly on the dyno. For a 1995 M3 with over 140,000 miles the compression readings ranged from 194 to 197 PSI. I think this is why we like our BMWs so much.

Glad you guys figured out the problem this morning and got successful runs. My 258 works out to 82% of rated power at the crank...only 1% off of the 17% I often hear as drivetrain loss. The most impressive car today IMO, was Momochrome's E36 M3, which posted in the neighborhood of 225 with bolt on mods. It seemed to come closest to the factory rated crank horsepower.

The cleanest car at the dyno day was either Astro's E34 525i or Momochrome's E36 M3. I was shocked to see JP's M Coupe dirty!

HAHAHAHA! ...and you guys thought my e34 was only a family car....the market price just went up to $24k!!!

Seriously speaking though, my car never got reved and wound up so high before...I think it (the car) likened it to a some prostate exam of sorts ....(that car's engine has been babied too much)....and SO, it was nice hearing the motor get wound up like that. It definitely blew out all of the carbon deposits!!!! Anyone got any carbon deposit blow-out marks on their shins?

Thank you very much Reid! It was a fascinating experience. It was especially interesting to hear the difference between my car wound up and momochrome's '98 e36 M3 car that followed. What a difference!!!

Kind words, but I could only win dirtiest of the day. My car hasn't been washed for weeks! The dead giveaway was when Reid spotted the two Gecko doots side by side on my trunk. Cleanest definitely went to Momochrome's '98 M3. It was flawless! It would be nice to see that car in the Spring Drive this weekend!

EXCUSE: I've been busy landscaping the front yard by tilling, moving dirt, cutting flower bed edging, and planting grass. After seeing Woody's landscaped yard a few weeks ago, it inspired me to get my butt in gear. From what I saw, his yard was immaculate!

Thank you BMWCCA and Hypersports for the dyno day. It was great to meet most of you for the first time. My car put down 227hp and 226tq. Thanks for the kind words; I am happy with those numbers. And yes Astro, your "dyno killer" did spray my shins with a warm healthy stream of carbon deposits. Matt

PS. Thanks for the scan, Beastie.
