1987 M6 production numbers worldwide

I am looking for the total production numbers worldwide for a 1987 M6 in order to buy "collectors" insurance. Does anyone know of a reliable source?

the bmw 6 series enthusiast's companion by jeremy walton is a fairly relaible source.

there were 1767 total North American M6's produced - the first 750 were considered "87's'

there were 5855 total M6's produced ever - European and North American.

Worldwide in 87' there were 1,476 cars made.

Here is the breakdown:
84-1412
85-1763
86-704
87-1476
88-437
89-52

Total: 5835

"Note that sales of these cars continued for some time after production ceased in Feb 89. In the Uk, for example, the final cars were not imported until 1991."

both of these will explain it to you -

the L6 says it on the badge onthe rear of the car - so does the M6 -

M6 has different motor and suspension. not as many made.. L6 was only made in '87..
