Talking DTM Wiper Blade Installed & Finshed....

Ok I finally got the part back friday and installed it today. I'll be honest with you the install is a bitch. If you have ever had to remove the blower then you know what I am talking about. Installing the actual part takes about 10 mins but the rest took me about 2 1/2 hr and this is my second time doing it. Word to the wise. If you plan on doing this then take my advise do not try and run the wiper linkage outside to test the throw. I almost lost my left middle finger in the wiper motor when the linkage started slide off the side. Over all I think that it was worth it. The blade actually moves quicker. It covers the entire window. Check the pics and video's

Video 2

If you are interested in doing this conversion I am willing to get a list together and do a group thing. The more the cheaper. But as it stands right now the part will cost $80.00 Let me know. PM me

There are no special blades. That is the OEM blade. Stock 23" passenger blade.

And the practical benefit of doing all this is???

It looks weird. Makes me feel almost like I am looking at some live organ going over your windshield. Does that thing bend in the middle?

Def an attention grabber thou. I'll give you two thumbs up for execution!

Weird. Very weird. I think I'll get hypnotized if I look too long. LOL

Are there any benefits over the stock 2 blades arangement? Or is this for looks and for a high coolness score?
Don't get me wrong please. It looks like it will grab anybody's attention on the street. It looks good.

Well as you can see in the video it covers the entire wind shield. I'm not sure on the e39's but on the e34's the passenger side leaver a water line. You can see the old line if you look at the video. But other than that it is for coolness and to be different. Like I said AC Schnitzer was the only one to make this mod for the e34. It was more common in the e30's

congrats on the install. i'd love to have a single blade working on the E39.

i agree that the wiper mech is a bitch to get to, mine was worn and noisy so i decided to get a second hand one and swap it, what a job!!
thing is, the second one has gone now, so if i HAVE to take it all out again, i think ill go single.
and why the hell not!!!!

I'm pretty satisfied with RainX but if this is cheap enough I wouldn't mind doing it.

Im probably, worrying about nothing here but:

if the mech piviot length is increased so the arm travel is extended, then the travel is added equally to the left and the right.
so now the wiper arm when re-fitted to the spindle is in a different position to original, so your not trying to wipe the corner of the bonnet aswell.
(stay with me!)
so does'nt that make a difference to where the wiper will park, or is that not triggered by spindle position???
i may be miles of track here, but its just a thought, humour me people!!!!!!

OK I think I understand what you are getting at....
Ok you are correct on both...
example..
say you want the wiper to rest at thee 12 o'clock position when off. You would adjust the lower link to the wiper motor.

If you want it at OEM start in the lower corner. Like mine. I had to move it on the spline.

Take a look at the linkage pic it will make more sense.

When I installed it I did not alter the link to the motor..I basically popped off the OEM and replaced it with my modified link.

I still have go back in and adjust the motor link to equal the positioning..

I hope that this makes sense

Talking DTM measurements

I think that it would be easier to just give the dimensions for the adjustment to the arm. The measurments came from an actual ACS DTM Linkage. What you will need to do is goto a BMW pick-n-pull and get an e34 wiper arm transmission. Take the driverside link arm off and find a good machine shop. What they will need to do is pop the press fit ball joint out from the top end( Passengerside) and lengthen it so the overall length of the new link is 15cm. Then make sure that when the Pivot ball back in it is the same distance from the end and the driver side pivot. Also remember to have the center point cut off just below the gearing and then polished. It is pretty simple. Should run about 1-1 1/2 hr labor for the job. The cost of $80 that I quoted was for a completely new machined link from scratch. So if you want to to this that is all it takes.

If you have any question please ask! I hope that I explained it well enough
