    All Clears created equal?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my tailights to clears. Any suggestions on what to stay away from, buy? What to look for?

    They are NOT created equal.
get OEM. Some aftermarket ones will give you OBC errors...

I have OBC errors...YAY for DEPO brand knockoffs. I think I can get them to go away and if not the guy is shipping me another set. Otherwise they are the same.

I use to think that OEM and knockoffs were all created equal, but now that I actually own OEM and Depo and compared them to each other I really see that is a big difference. Generally OEM is a lot nicer and better materials, however I do know a few people who prefer the knockoffs look over the oem one so

no, clears are actually very different. There are asian made "euro" clear corners, euro made euro corners. The cheaper corners/taillights tend to get moisture inside. On the taillights I would spend the extra money for oem red/clear taillights because it will save you a lot of headaches from bad bulb contacts on the back. try bekkers.com

asian made clears normally don't fit very well, and you can get condensation inside the glass. This is one of those parts that you do want to get OEM.

i would do this to save money but at the same time save the car from $hit happening:

any type of aftermarket front clears (even if water gets in, it's only your engine bay)
OE or OEM clear side markers (so water doesn't get into your fenders)
OE or OEM clear tails (so water doesn't get into your trunk)

ebay rear lights not only gave me obc errors, they also started shorting out and blowing all the fuses in my fuse box. go oem or nothing.

I've got $70 Ebay knock offs and have ZERO problems with them. People always say get OEM and I was contemplating it at first, but now I realized going OEM would have given me the same result but for $200 more. If you follow the directions that come with the Ebay ones, to fix the check control, you should have NO problems.

BTW that was $70 for the pair...

You MUST be talking front clears, right?

    Anyways, to address this thread:

They are not OEM but they are money back guaranteed by ppinnacle, and from what I hear he is a very good forum supporting vendor. $145 shipped. I am going to buy a pair myself

My car came with cheap fornts and sides: Fronts broke and fit very poorly. Sides rubber moldings are a poor fit. The Tails are OK, but I think they were from Bavauto, which has a very good reputation-tho expensive.
So, I just bought genuine BMW clear tails on ebay (rare you see them there).

YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO GO OEM!!!! for Tails. Otherwise its code hell.

HEY BMW3ER, awesome looking setup !!!!!!!!!

I got the knock off tails off ebay too. $70 for the pair. I have no code problems. The only problem i have had is that some of the bulbs were kind of hard to get a good connection to the tail light. I just had to work them a little and then they clicked into place.

I'm in the process of getting new taillights right now. The guy who had the car before me put knockoffs in and they look almost the same, but the setup is completely different than the OEM. OEM is almost all metal inside, knockoffs have a lot of plastic, and the plastic that holds the connectors in breaks after time, making getting a connection a pain in the ass. I had to replace one already because the knockoff wasn't able to hold in the wiring harness into the taillight, so i had no breaklight or running lights, and now my other is starting to go bad. I would rather just buy a new one than try to fix it temporarily and have it keep going out everytime I go over a bump or dip.
