Well after much discussion, I listened to the guy at advanced auto parts and got the Bosch platinum plugs with the 4 prongs like splitfire. My plugs were quite black, and at least 2 years old, so it's not surprising that the car runs a bit better now, but I don't know if they're better than single prong ones. The good thing though, is that you don't have to gap them, I put them in myself. Oh, and the cost alltogether was about 38 bucks.

His child's college fund thanks you! Just kidding, they are a little pricey. I hope they do way better than Splitfire. They truly do , s*(k. Watch your gas mileage, that will tell the story.
I have heard it argued both ways...I'd like to see some actual tests or results.
You are not supposed to use platnum in your bmw.
I switched to bosch from platnum and my car revs smother.
Not trying to hijack but, I want to change mine out, what should I go with and how much should I look to spend? Also how hard is it to change out since my car didn't come with the spark plug tool . TIA
Yes you are...don't try to lie about it.Originally Posted by dub n 328i

Platinum is bad m'kay. I don't know why but try it. Plus read some of the bmw links, every one says don't use platinum. Even the guy at bav auto told me not to buy them, even though they were more expensive.Originally Posted by BimmerDude18
I've heard the same...Originally Posted by Beamin'
anyome have a link of what spark plugs i should use in my new m3 motor coming in, ie where can i get them easily and which ones are good to use
You obviously didn't read what I just wrote. First of all not everyone says not to use them. Of 5 mechanics I asked 2 said stay stock...one reccommended any type of new plugs that were of stock grade or better, one reccommended NKG's (I think he had too much rice that day), and the last one reccommended the platinums. So no not EVERYONE says not to get them. I have heard more bad than good about them but the fact still remains that some ppl do say good stuff. I'm in no rush to spend 50 bucks and a couple hours time to change test and change back my spark plugs....I was just wondering why noone had more conclusive results. Even Bosch doesn't have anything that I've seen.Originally Posted by Beamin'

Ok...apparentyl I'm missing something. There was a pro platinum +4 thread about a month ago. Its not just one person. But you are missing the point of my question. WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY "They aren't as good." Its such a vague and useless answer. Its like saying....gas is better than deisel. There has to be some justification. A rough idle like you experienced is the first time I have heard anything...and it could have been caused by something else for all you or I know.Originally Posted by Beamin'
Please don't argue with me needlessly because its just stupid. Your saying that everyone reccommends against them...I'm just asking why. If someone can dyno a CAI to justify one horsepower why can't they test a set of plugs.
Platinum is not as good.Originally Posted by BimmerDude18
So how hard is it change the dam things out? thanks
At the top of the forum go into the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Library and find the link to the tech article. It is not real hard, but it is more involved than other cars.Originally Posted by dub n 328i
Take off oil cap.Originally Posted by dub n 328i
Take off two plastic covers.
Replace oil cap so srews dont fall into the engine.
Remove coil packs
Remove spark plugs.
Replace with NON platinum plugs.
Clean the white corrosion out of the coil pack connectors.
Assembly is the opposite if disassembly (got that line out of those great Haynes manual)

Just wait untill your engine blows up and shoots pieces of hot metal into innocent bystanders! Then you will wish you hadn't used platinum plugs! You have been warned...Originally Posted by Carlb328
