Anyone Intrested in a DTM Wiper Conversion for the e34????

I just wanted to see if anyone out there was intersted in a DTM style single wiper blade for their e34. AC Schnitzer was the only aftermarket company to produce one for the e34. After several attempts to get one on the German eBay only to be out bid 3 times at the last sec. I decided to make my own. So I headed over to Bavarian Auto Recycling and talked my my friend Nelson and he hooked me up with a wiper transmission to experiment on. Thanks Nelson!

I was able to get the specs. on the ACS DTM from a friend in Germany on what has been modified and I am going to a machine shop on Monday to see if they can make the parts I need. I figured that it would be cheaper in a group than a one of. The modification would be simple. The arm that controls the driver and the passenger wiper throw range has to be lengthened. All you would have to do is remove your wiper transmission assembly and pop the OEM part off(they are connected by ball joints) and replace it with the new legthened one. After assembly your passenger wiper will now cover the entire window.

Thought that I would throw this out there and see if anyone else might be
interested..


This is the AC Schnitzer DTM. You can see that on the right end the gold arm has been legthened to give the passenger side a longer throw. That gold arm is what would be needed to be swapped.

No the ACS basically was a converted OEM BMW Transmission. The stock passenger wiper blade will work. It is what the ACS kit used..

i'm game as long as the price is right... will the passenger wiper be any longer? say a 25 inches? also to complete the look it'd have to be covered in some kinda black plastic? last question, will it wipe fast enuff lol

1-) I will try and get a price update by mid-week. I'm guessing $30-$70 for the machine work.
2-) The wiper will use the stock blade. ( You can experiment by removing the drivers side and loosen the passenger and see the wipe range. I did this and it covers the driver side fine.)
3-) The only mod is to the wiper linkage..it is made longer for more throw. The driver side post top will be deleted. So a driver side wipe will no longer mount...
4-) Will it be fast enough? I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Update...I will have a price for the mod'ed part this Wed. If you are intrested in this mod let me know by late tonight...I will be posting a price tomorrow. The more people the better price I can get. Probally looking at $20-$50 roughly..

OK here is were it stands...I drop of the part to modified yesterday. I will have the new finished part on next Wed. I'll install it and test it. If at that point everything is kool them I'll post to this tread again and once I get a count of how many are in for sure them I can goto Dan and see what it will cost for the part. I think that this can work 2 ways. Either have a complete new part made from scratch or modify the exsisting one like it did. It is costing me $35 for my exsisting to modified....So hang tight until next wed and I'll let you know if it worked and I'll try and post some video of it also...

So remember the more people in the cheaper it will be.

If you are serious....Why didn't you let me know you were stopping by today I would have loved to see the car!

Ya we have it worked out. a 1985 1.8L w/ my slush box. A 1.5" MFA and 12lbs injectors with a stock chip...the key here for the massive power is no air box or filter...... Stu felt that the custom chip would not be enough for this highly modified engine....We figure at least 400Hp and the rear wheel on a ICE PAD! Thinks possible that it may not be street legal!

Well in additioin to the single wiper arm they also offer a triple edge blade for you messy ones and a warm water squirt to clean up the rest.......

UPDATE::::

I just picked up the modified part and it is still a little short on throw...about 3"-4" on the drivers side. So I will be taking it back to be lengthened a tad more...this second mod should be finished mid next week. I will be sure to post a video of the arm in action.....Couple of pics of the ACS DTM on the e34. Actually took these of the eBay DTM for sale. This guy in Germany is trying to sell a used ACS DTM for more than they were when sold new plus the S&H to the US! What a joke!
