try resetting the car-disconnect the battery for a while.

You can throw an interstate model # mt93 as a replacement.

IMO, the most cost efficient battery is an OEM Battery. Many may debate this, but I have no hard proof as to how long aftermarket batteries would last in a 7.

Several individuals have gone with supposedly BMW supplier [douglas if I remember correctly], so my opinions and comments may be proved wrong years down the road, but for now I stick with my opinion because I don't know anybody who has had a different battery for any great length of time.

    Your battery = original
    Your car = 1997
Battery life = at least 7 years
    $250.00 / 7 = $35.71 per year

Pretty cost effective in my book, but that's just me!

    Fair point.

I still have my original batter (1998 MY) and it's showing no signs of giving it up).

So, this raises the questions, who makes OEM batteries for BMW and are they sold under another (less expensive) name...

    Reed,

I think it is douglas, but won't guarantee that, I also believe they are a bit smaller [lengthwise] then the original.

Never saw one in person, but I bet www.e38.org has some info.

For a reboot of the CarSystem you donīt just have to disconnect the battery, but you will have to disconnect it, wait for 15min, then shortcut your neg and pos (BE SURE NOT TO HAVE THE BATTERY IN THE CIRCUIT!!!!) wires, and then reconnect the battery. That will re-launch the CarSystems. Could be of help.
