8 Series (E31) (1991 - 1997) As the last E24 rolled off the production line in 1989, its replacement was quick on its heels to fulfill the fantasies of those looking for a touring coupe with all of the luxury, performance, and prestige of a BMW, only now with both 8 and 12 cylinder engines.

Keyless Entry

I have a '93 850Ci and the dealer said they did not offer keyless entry on it.. (geez.. my 94 Pathfinder has it).. Has anyone installed aftermarket keyless entry? If you have.. what brand/model was it.. and are you happy with it? Thanks..

I think that they did several variants of remote entry system during the early years. Some were disabled by BMW as unsafe for children. Others were dealer upgrades of the Alpine system.

The "final" system started showing up in some 1993 builds. My 5/94 build has the antenna in the mirror and a workable but relatively short range for an RF system. The key has a 3 button remote built in.

remote entry

Thanks.. I was told the 7000 was awesome.. but they no longer make it.. Clifford was bought by another company.. from what they said..

I went with the Python 881xp.. will put the window closing feature in later.. they just advised me of that feature when I picked up my car tonight.. they did a great job putting an nice 1/16th inch warning light in the dash above the main light switch...you can barely see it until the alarm is activated..

I'm going to love the remote start feature.. I always start me vehicles to warm them up.. while i'm getting ready for work.. now all I have to do is push a button..
