8 Series (E31) (1991 - 1997) As the last E24 rolled off the production line in 1989, its replacement was quick on its heels to fulfill the fantasies of those looking for a touring coupe with all of the luxury, performance, and prestige of a BMW, only now with both 8 and 12 cylinder engines.

Spotted An 850csi Last Week

On my way to school on 680 southbound last week I saw a black 8 series. Im in the lowly CR-V so I slow down to let him pass me. He comes up slow and I can see the business end of his car. It reads 850CSI. I was stunned.

So I was driving all around it; front, back both sides. It was an older gentleman driving. The plates read DLR on the side *for dealer*, and it had a dinan license plate frame. The paint was absolutely immaculate. It was so beautiful. He had 4 exhaust tips, and they looked similar to the 996 where 2 sort of overlap. It was very pretty. I wish I had a digi cam, I would have snapped a few pics for you guys.

About how many csi's were imported into America?

Somewhere around 215 CSIs were imported by BMW and probably about 25 imported by individuals as gray market cars.

The Bay area is pretty much a hotbed of 8s. Even an active group of owners - "Bay Area 8s"
There is another bunch in SoCal that put 26 cars at an 8 meet a year ago.

In September of last year we had 76 cars in one place at Garberville including 17 850CSi's if I remember correctly. Now that is an AWESOME sight - 76 in a row tearing down the back roads along the Lost Coast!!

Registration is up to 31 for the East Coast 8 Fest now and people are making arrangements for European visitors to be picked up at the airports with a place to stay.

8ers are a great bunch!!

Made my Heart Race!!!!

If the dollar and the Euro were once again 1:1 like they are supposed to be I would love too!!

But currently it would be more than I am willing to pay for a Euro 850CSI in Dollars.
That would be a wild test drive of a "new" car!! My wife really thinks that I am getting too old for this kind of thing though. Is 60 really old?

The last time I was on an Autobahn was in 1970 going from Italy thru Munich to Bremerhaven to put my Opel Kadette Rallye 1.9 on a boat for the states. I could only run at about 200kph so I was slow traffic and had to stay out of the way!
