This weekend is a double header for Chicago SCCA Autocross and we have tight battle in STR class with 6 regular drivers all pretty close on points.
I'm currently 2nd and working to improve and also just outside the top 20 overall.
At the last event, I had my worst finish in a long time 9th out of 9 drivers. Was not happy to say the least, I was not driving well but the car had no grip. The current 255/40 Z1's have done well for 2 years and still have around 5/32 tread left but I think the 5 or 6 track days has not been kind so it's time for them to go.
And although the 255's fit on an 8.5" Kosei K1, they always looked a little squeezed.
So a quick call to Tire Rack and here is the new combo.
TRMotorsport MT1-R 17x9 (40mm offset) wrapped with the same size Z1's.
That extra 1/2 makes quite a difference. and the tires look much better on the larger wheel.
Never had dark rims before but I like the look. The rears as ever have plenty of room (30mm spacers), the fronts are a squeeze, 5mm spacer is just enough the keep the tire off the strut.
Now all I got to do is get the result

Looks great, but why not APEX wheels?
Good luck Robin!

I agree the extra 1/2" does help with 255's. I'm going to do my best to leap frog you from third. I'm banking on R1R's since they thrive on the cooler conditions but it should be interesting. I think we need to have a team competition. What do you think?

Now in E92 M3 ZCP -- Absolute beast
Apex would have been more for not much gain if anything. For a tack wheel apex would be the choice but for autocross these should be just fine.
They are actually an ENEKI wheel and very light for the cost.
They look outstanding, dark but not too dark, a great contrast with the yellow, if you perform as well as the car looks you will win.

R1R's were not the answer. Serious knife to a gun fight. Live and learn.

Results?
Well it did not work. Struggled to get the right air pressures.
Saturday I came 3rd in class and 13th overall, Top 5 in class were within .25 seconds.
Sunday just could not get the rears to stick and with such a fast flowing close it suited the S2000's much better.
Overall though (based on my unofficial math) I was 2nd in Class for the year and made 20 top overall - Oddly enough the STR class winner did not make the top 20 (calculated on 6 events vs 5 events for class).
That picture is likely with his Vorshlag camber plates out -- ie. street settings -- as opposed to in. I'm certain Robin can get 3.5 or more negative camber.

Correct - That's the street setting. run way more than that for autocross.
For those old enough to know... classic "sports" color scheme.
