    E39 Touring LSx project

I recently sold my turbo E34 to build and LSx E39. I have always wanted a touring so I decided to go that route. So now I will have my V70R as a DD and the E39 LSx for fun.

Just waiting on a price for a new LS3 and TR-6060 before I get going. I am good friends with Clay (357i) and we live close to eachother so we will be doing both cars at the same time.

Anyway, here is the platform. I wanted Alpine white with black leather but I knew I had to have this car when I saw the color. Mojave brown metallic.

    Cool and unique car.

We loved driving our 540iT. Probably should have kept it considering the LS to E39 swap was in the future. Lost my shorts on the resale and it was a much nicer car (72k miles) than the one I'm converting.

Nice to see another E39 swap.

Very nice! You going with a new crate ls3? Crateenginedepot and pace performance usually have the best prices.

    Car looks great! Good luck

When I was considering new motors, I found that buying from the local GM dealer was less than the mail orders. Some parts were more and some were less but shipping was free! I did know someone in the parts department and he may have quoted less than list price.

I have a good friend who owns a company that is a GM distributor But depending on the cost, I may go used as now I want to do everything. M5 bumpers, lights, drop, wheels etc.

With all of these e39 swaps it might be time to move on to something else

E36 LSx used to be the dominant topic, new sub forum title should be "E39 LSx".

You're local? When you get that done I'd love to check it out.

It's unfortunate that the rear suspension is different than the sedan. Would be great if there was a way to fabricate a mount to accept the M5 setup as I have a line on some coilovers.

I'm anxious to get the cost on the new engine and trans as I want to know how much will be leftover for the other goodies. I considered the LSA but then I wouldn't be driving it for a long time.

LsA isn't all that great. Drove my buddies zl1 with an lsA and its fast for sure, nothing like the ls9 though.

LOL. LS9 is only about double the price of the LFA.

    Nice clean candidate.
I wish my wife wanted a E39iT with an LSx..... It would make my life so much simpler.

I really like the color combo. The trim in the interior looks nice. Your going to love it when it's finished. I should not have taken so long on mine. Good luck, have fun

Glad to see you finally found one. I'm thinking on doing a LSx swap to my 97 528. Been looking for a engine and trans.

www.car-part.com is your friend, along with ebay for a nice used driveline. I think the LS3 or LSA along with the TR6060 is the hot ticket...unless you can find an LS7 for comparable money. You might if you look hard enough...

Can you swap in an M5 LSD diff in the touring?

I haven't checked car-part yet but LS3/TR6060 combo's are around $10k which will kill my budget. I do plan on swapping in an M5 diff. And I have to buy the headers and DS. LS7 is out of the question as they are $13k+ for the motor alone. I only have $13k to work with total after the purchase of the car.

Yup, same price on car-part as ebay etc. $10k full pullout. Not enough money left to get it in the car and driving and that is crucial before my baby boy gets here

I will be joining the Alpine E34 > E39 touring club very soon as well! I also plan to swap in an LS motor, but I'm going with an Iron block 5.3/6.0 and I'm using the 4L80E. My touring will be my tow vehicle.
