As crazy as it sounds, looks like a M3 won STU yesterday.

So without cutting fenders, what wheel/tire combo can we get under E36s for BSP?
What was Mark running?

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
Is this a joke? What is GOING ON?
congrats to Tristan on the win! I was there watching curiously and came by the check out the car a little bit. Tell us more about your setup! Looked like 255/40/17 dunlops all around?

I know Tristan loves his Starspecs
I think 255s
Congrats bud
This thread clearly needs some in car video and pics of the car
97 BMW M3 (s52b32) - VF-Supercharger kit ( Vortech V2-SQ supercharger, 32 pound injectors, VF tuning ), VDO/LeatherZ Gauge Kit (Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, and Boost), UUC Motorwerks RSC36 Exhaust, Stainless Steel 6-2 Exhaust Headers, Bilstein Sports, Rear Adjustable Camber bushings, Wheel Spacers 10mm in front 25mm in back, Uprated Clutch, UUC Shift Knob, Short Shifter and Clutch Stop, Cross Brace, Mason Engineering front strut bar, Contour Wheels, Euro Ellipsoid (Angel Eyes) HID Headlights, braided steel brake lines, aluminum thermostat housing, mishimoto aluminum radiator and silicone hoses and a partridge in a pear tree
I would love to hear some thoughts on how this is possible from mike, terry or bob. I would not be shocked to see one of these cars trophy but winning STU in a m3 is a miracle almost.
The courses had a lot of sweepers on one and thread the needle to slaloms on the other.

I'm not the Mike that Kerry refers to but I watched all of Tristan's runs and was amazed at how "stuck" the car appeared to be. The lines he could hold and speeds were mind boggling. Also, not sure if anyone noticed but he could have stood on his first runs each day as he got slightly slower on subsequent runs on both days. To say that those in grid were stunned would be an understatement.

Yes, I do love my 255's Dunlops. I found them to be the most consistent tire as far as grip goes in all different conditions. We will have to see what next season brings with tires as there will be a couple of new tires being released.
As far as car setup goes, there isn't anything special about it.
- MCS Double adjustable Dampers
- UUC Front bar/ Stock rear bar
- 255/40/17 Dunlops on all for corners using APEX wheels. (I can't find a way to fits bigger tires with the current fender rules. Maybe if you go with some CCW's with custom offsets)
- Stock diff with 180k
- Bolt on power upgrades that are allowed in STU (K&N intake, Bimmerworld 3in Race Exhaust, tune by Brett Strom)
- Sparco seats

Thanks so much guys. I guess it hasn't sunken in on exactly what I have done but all of you and my friends have helped. I would have never gone to Nationals without my follow racers pushing me to do this. Before racing cars I used to race mountain bikes and I had the wrong bicycle for the type of racing I competed in. I did not care and it just made me try that much harder to prove that I can do well with the "wrong" equipment. I guess this applies to me having the "under-dog" car and proving it can still be competitive in STU. I wanted to see how far I could take my e36. See you guys all next year.
Oh, SCCA archives are not working for me which is not allowing me to look up previous years results past 2010. Has a 2wd car ever won in STU? Was it an e36? How long has the class of STU been around? I want some history!
I don't see how it is possible to run another 10mm's of rubber underneath e36 fenders. Depending on my ride height settings I will already rub my 255's. Also, who wants to pay for 18 inch tire prices. Each tire is close to $100 more I think. But thanks for bringing it to my attention. It is something to consider in the future.

No, my car has a lot beyond a BSP car. Mark's car is not making any more power than most bolt-on M3's. It doesn't have any tricks for power yet (although it would not surprise me if it has some by next season!) I know a bit about the car because I worked for Mark for several years and helped with the building and setup of that car.
It is definitely leaving a LOT on the table as far as available BSP preparation. Mark is a very good driver, and that is most of the result you are seeing.
I think an E36 in full-tilt BSP trim can make 260-280whp and around 235-240wtq - for a purpose-built, BSP-limit-of-the-rules, cost no object build. As is typically the case, the last 10% of the power costs 90% of the total build.
