zionsville 6cyl radiator into 4cyl bmw

    Hello,

I got my zionsville autosport alloy radiator as well as the 6cyl shroud and expansion tank... and of course all necessary plumbing and an elbow to extend the hose that ends up on the wrong side.

the 6cyl radiator takes up as much space as the 4banger its just that the 4cyl has the expansion tank directly inline with the radiator on the right side; and the 6cyl has the expansion tank back on the shroud on the left side....

    My dilemma is this...
the 4cyl bmw radiator has a big shroud with an electric auxiliary pull-type fan
while on the other hand the 6cyl has a push-type fan in front of the radiator and the fan that actually fits in this shroud is engine driven on the 6cyl cars rather than electric.

I think that i can cut the 4cyl shroud to fit into the modified 6cyl shroud with few gaps... has anyone tried this ?

    any suggestions?

I know itll all work out... just make it easier for me OK heh heh

hey coleco, why did you decide to go with the 6cyl radiator? is it because of your DASC?

btw, if i ever go up to Kansas ill have to hit you up to see how a DASC driven 4banger feels like.

I just decided to get it because i wanted the alloy tanks on the radiator...they only make a 6cyl alloy radiator. the neck on my plastic top radiator is cracked it leaks coolant to the point that i have to top it off once a week. its going to fail soon. i dont want to have to keep getting radiators... last summer i got doused with prestone from a honda ... all in my eyes and mouth. im still alive and i can see so id prefer to keep it that way lol.

I'd surely give you a ride if you are ever in kansas or if i drive thru oklahoma ...

well i guess you might be the first one to do this. if it all works out ill have to ask you some questions. when i hit the curb last year it bent my radiator so that will be replaced soon. my car doesnt over heat but it is still "winter." ill wait until the onset of summer. good luck.

    Follow uP:

    Installed the radiator
I did have to purchase an aftermarket electric fan. a 16" flex-a-lite 2000CFM 12V auxilary fan. And for that fan to mount to the new 6cyl shroud i had to fabricate some simple mounts.

to put the 6cyl radiator into the 4 cyl 318ti...
    you need:
    1.)6cyl radiator
2.)drivers side lower radiator support bracket.
3.)The hose from a 6cyl that comes out of the expansion tank and through the shroud.
4.) 1 fitting to fit the expansion tank hose up to the stock 4cyl one. and hose clamps.
    5.)~1gallon BMW coolant
    6.) ~1gallon Distilled water
7.)16" or smaller electric pull-type fan such as the flex-a-lite,spal,blackwidow
8.)I have to get a new upper radiator hose ... the Downing Atlanta hose is now too close to the pulley for my taste.

Im going to go to a local shop this week in which i saw that i can purchase all sizes of ss steel braided hose by the foot for about the cost of a new foot lol. My friend has the braided hoses in his car ... they look freakin amazing compared to the black bs.

Ill post pics of the engine bay with new radiator very soon.
And how i ended up mounting the fan to the 6cyl shroud.
