HOW TO DELETE EWS 2 : ODB 1 (W.A.R. Chip)

    Hello all,

This how to is quite simple and I hope it help a few people out.

This will show how to delete EWS 2 (BMW's security) on 95' cars with ODB 1.

First locate the circular pod to the right of the brake fluid.

    http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...-07-47_790.jpg

then find the smaller green wire that connects to the outermost ring of the port. Snip this wire in the middle so that if you would want to reconnect the wires you have enough give.

    http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...-09-31_965.jpg

then wrap some electrical tape around the end of the wire coming from the car. this will both keep the wire from recconecting back together and not allowing your car to start and help keep the wire from sliding back within the tangle of wires.

    http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...-11-06_968.jpg

put the rubber cap back on being careful not to pinch any wires, and you're good to go!

    http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...-14-08_657.jpg

One thing I should also add is that if your car has the silver label 413 DME, use that with the chip, snipping this wire essentially deletes the EWS functions on the DME.

I did this to be able to use the Miller W.A.R. chip and it fired right up just like it had before. The W.A.R. chip is deffinately the best bang for your buck option. SO much more control than just your average "performance chip". Launch control, vanos settings, 4 different tune options, and complete control over your car definitely beats out single chips. Love it.
PM or post with any questions.

I have a no CRANK problem with a 7/95 m3. I "think" its ews II related.

Car has some Dinan chip from prev owner. Don't care about the chips, just want it to crank/start/run.

    Think this'll work?

I have a Bentley service manual & still want to post this question, thanks.

1995 silver label is EWS1 and not EWS2. Miller war chip software is from 1993 red label, so no need to cut any wires. So basicly your post is all wrong information

Thanks anyway, your post is no help at all is it?

How do I confirm if I have ews1 or ews2 besides the build date?

I don't car about war chip or dinan chip. Just want the car to start.

Well thanks, I guess, for nothing.

How do I tell ews1 from ews2 besides built date.

You offer nothing but a smart comment?

Do you have any help to offer?

    Do your research bud.

"As you can see, there were several versions of antitheft systems in E36's thru the years.. go to the end of the pdf to see a chart for version/name of the antitheft system and what PRODUCTION years/models had the system install.. For example, EWS 2 was installed in all E36's from 1/95 until the end of production"

Do you have the stock chip? Id try that first. Look at the diagrams of the two in the thread I linked in the previous post. If it is stock it does have EWS 2.

Thanks bud, at least you offer a little. I am doing reasearch & I did read the pdf & that's why I should have ews2 per the white paper.

Why does that other poster (HAKENTT) say I have ews1? A 7/95 car?

I will post a picture of the dme later & I think it's Dinan chipped as their sticker is on the obd1 port.

    Maybe I need this?

    FROM ANOTHER THREAD.

    I SOLVED MY ISSUE!

    Here is a drop down:
    1) I knew 95 M3 with s50 was 9/95, so research pointed me to 413 Silver DME. Older M3's have 506 Brown DME's.
    2) DINAN chip D903-2943 s correct to my my 413 Silver DME. D903-2941 goes for 506 Brown DME.
    3) Silved 413 DME is EWS2, there is no stock RED 413 for 95 M3.
    4) Splicing green wire is actually wrong for EWS2 car because EWS and DME need to talk to each other.
    5) Aligning DME to EWS on EWS2 car is VERY SIMPLE on DIS.44 (see software section).
    6) Connected Green wire back together, tested the connection with Ohm-Meter from pin 66 on DME to pin #7 on connector and car fired right up!!!

I hope this info helps someone in the future because i really appreciate the help i got from all forum members on bimmerforums and m3forums, previous posts, and all around people that still try to help each other.

You do not need the alignment. If you have the silver label 413 DME, u can delete the EWS with the writeup. Have you had the car running with the chip in?

Absolutely yes, car ran fine. The Dinan chip was installed by PO and never touched by myself.

Only thing that happend in an intermittant no cranck became perm no crank.

Can the dealer test the chip in the key to be good?

Went to dealer to return unneeded FP relay, had to keep DME relay as I plugged it in, oh well.

I posted pics of the dme & ews & following direction from an ecu doctor in FL I jumped the #1 #3 ews connections & now I have gone fron no crank to no start. I advise anyone reading this, do not go off on a tangent about trouble shooting no start. It's because the ews is UNPLUGGED and jumpered & I continue to work on it.

Car NEVER had no start problem, it's a byproduct of the trouble shooting going on. Thanks.

Now need to hack the dme for a bypassed ews to start & run, I guess.

I am not sure on trying what the OP outlined in 1st post as my car has 1 pod next to the brake master, not 2 so already we are talking different 1995 cars.

Too bad as his hack was soooo easy.

I would check under that pod and see if its there. The above "hack" essentially does the same thing. It just sends the signal constantly instead of cutting it off completely.

Reviving an old thread, as I'm in the process of simplifying my track car's wiring harness. It's also a '95 E36 M3, with a silver label 413 DMW and WAR chip.

I want to be able to completely remove all the EWS components and wiring. Any advice is welcome.

    Thanks
