I would think thats probably the best way to make this work. So if you ship yours to me that means i could take the 5 off for me buying it. so 30 shipped
Can you actually use a phone battery with the existing charging system? I thought the original batteries were Ni-Cd or something else ancient like that.
Also, how bright will it be?
interest, need pics first though
Use Cree LEDs and I'll be in.
Phone batteries are useable because others in the past have done..and I will look into these CREE leds
ATM im waiting on the LED's i bought off ebay to arrive.
I looked into the CREE LEDS and they are a little high on price but seem to have great output. purchase a couple to see how they turn out.
Once i make the first one i will see if i like the brightness. (I have led maglite flashlights so thats the brightness im comparing them too)

Yep, we (I work for Cree) are expensive but we're an American manufacturer and we put out a quality product.
Got some 5mm leds in the mail... there bright but not the brightness im looking for. Maybe if I glued 3 of them togethor it will work out. But it wont look clean so I think im going to look into a new bulb. Need something around 10mm wide. Also still waiting on the cree leds
When you get it all figured out with pics, I'm game.
The flash lights are going to run around 35 shipped ( shipping included in price which is around 4 dollars )
Price Layout
LED's-50 cents
New Phone battery- 20 dollars ( rounded up )
Flashlight itself -5 dollars ( from a junkyard price may change bepending on where i get them )
New resistors-20 cents
time and effort-5 dollars
Well thats it. thoughts and ideas are welcomed[/QUOTE]
I'd be interested, but do not have a factory flashlight to ship for update.
Got the cree led's i ordered and they turned out to be the wrong type. bought the voltage to high (me not paying attention) will get back to you guys when i figure something out. also found out the battery source needs to be stronger.
I'm interested, and will be watching this thread.
Were you looking at using a single high power Luxeon from Cree or an array of weaker LEDs?
Any updates on this?
Well I figured this out ...
The led type and brand I won't mention but will costs roughly 22 dollars
and the batteries run about 30
Problem is that to make some profit and cost of shipping and cost of the light itself, it's going to run about 70 per light
Pretty high price but if people want it make each light will be made to order
I will post pictures of the final product tomorrow
The light output is roughly the same as a maglite
Thanks and sorry for the wait

In the meantime, BMW beat you to the punch:

Item # 261163507681
It's an LED flashlight that sits in a cigarette lighter.
