more than a few people have pm'd me lately asking for a list of parts for the vanos and timing guides of the m62tu so i decided to type up my reciepts and notes into a master list. the list is extremely long so planning out the work well in advance is the key here. i hope someone can find this list useful.
you will probably want to click on "thread tools" for a printable version of this page.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, how is your car doing after the vanos rebuild? Noise gone?
Cheers

How much was all that?
And while you are this far in, it is very easy to do the intake gaskets. And CVV. And Valley pan. And cooling system.
I just did all this to my car. About 30 hours worth of work. Around $1200 in parts, but I didn't do the complete cooling system and my CVV and valve covers were fresh. In the end, the Vanos noise is GONE. The oil leaks are now only red from the P/S. The billows of smoke on startup are gone. And it runs a bit smoother.
It's a pretty involved DIY. I would be willing to do it again for those in or near SE Virginia.
/.randy
im currently gathering parts for a valley pan/manifold swap.
eac has a good valley pan/ manifold gasket list but mine will include things like injector o-rings required for swapping manifolds.
car is running better than ever with the new vanos seals. and alot quieter. i think its my pulleys making all the noise now.
btw the title was supposed to say "m62" not "m2". i went in and edited the title under "go advanced" options but the title is still the same.

Topaz,
Where'd you get your vanos kit from? I can't find one from Beisan systems.
i got it from Raj at beisan when they were beta testing.
if you contact him on the link through beisansystems.com he might send one.
idk if he finally launched the product yet but he seems willing to part with them if you ask.
one kit for $60 includes seals for both cylinder bank vanos's.

Sweet list. I'm gonna need to use this. This would be a good site to use to find good deals.

I still own an e30, but life has picked up speed and I no longer frequent this forum or own my e39. Thanks for 7 years of help everyone!
AWESOME list. THAT took a LONG time to write up.
I added a bunch of other stuff to mine, including the Zionsville, the M60 intake manifold swap, the PS reservoir and hoses, entire front suspension overhaul (thrust arms with Meyle bushings, control arms, sway bar links and bushings, tie rod ends, center link with idler arm), engine and tranny mounts, rear sway bar links. I also replaced the ignition switch to cure the common issue (i.e. airbag warning light), and I'm about to do a new master key fob replacement.
Now if I could just get that dang timing right!
BTW, for anyone looking for an M60 intake manifold, Vines Automotive (www.vinesauto.com), a pure BMW parts yard in the Birmingham, AL area, has a bunch of them. I know because I saw them when I was there recently. Call 205-426-2697 and ask for Martin. Great guy.

Thanks topaz, this will be real useful as I want to do all this stuff in the summer for peace of mind. Going to grab an M5 bumper, may as well pull the front end off entirely and do everything at once right?

Great write up! i need to rent your timing tools and crankshaft holder, i dont have AIM would you contact me, please thru e-mail?
You can also find these tool kits for rent at bimmertoolrental.com if you need.
Thanks Kaineb for the info. i ordered it tonight and hopefully I will have all the parts and tools here by the weekend.
No problem on the timing tools rental info, and good luck with your repairs. I hear they are a bear but pretty necessary. Lots to be done while you are in there.
Its amazing the support that the community has, businesses that are out there to support the aftermarket, etc.
Please update us on how the repair went.
Great write up.
I am in the midst of completing the same job,
just got an email from Raj and i will be getting my beta kit shortly
topaz540i; just wondering did you go with oem seals, pelican or???
I have read many threads and it seems oem is the way to go based on quality, although its a bit more cash.
Thanks,

Seal for the vanos? Beisansystems is the only way to go. Raj is the only person who makes them for the m62tu
Oem the dealership wont sell them separate. You have to buy both complete vanos units for $500 each i believe.

Yes, Raj is hooking yup the seals for the VANOS.
This is great because the entire front of the engine is apart.
My comments regaridng the seals earlier were more related to all of the other seals/gaskets.
I have three dealers within 5-miles.
I dont mind spending the extra couple of bucks if its worth it.
Pelican seems ok as do a few other suppliers.
Working to Live; not Living to Work.
Pelican and eac had the best prices for everything. If eac doesnt stock the odd stuff pelican most likely does.
Most of my gaskets were victor reinz

I just contacted raj and he told me the m62tu vanos kit will be available in ~3 months (i.e. Oct-Nov 2012).... Sucks.
And he keeps saying 'it will be in 2-3 months' since May 2011....

On the diagram linked below, I see #14 listed under the VANOs list from OP, but ECS has parts 10,13,15,16 (chain and tensioner) listed in their kit, is replacing those parts overkill? I don't see those on most of the DIY parts lists I've looked at. The VANOS will be pulled for seal replacement.
